Using "we simply do not know" as the answer for the ban is a rationalization. It is hiding from past mistakes. LDS, own up to a mistake for once, goddamn you. Here - read this: http://www.LDS.org/ldsorg/v/index.jsp?h ... 94610aRCRD

I want to go on record as giving mega-kudos to young Antley for taking a public stand on this. Way to go!
Jenna's statements sounded a little more wishy-washy, though. If I heard her correctly, she was more embarrassed that the Church's teachings were being read by her friends back in D.C. than in saying she found them personally offensive.
"There's a time and place for everything," she concluded.
Proceed with caution, Antley.
All the Best!

This x 2. I expect what the Church and BYU want most at this point is for this to die down and the powers that be will not look kindly upon more attention drawn to the issue regardless of the stance.
"Any over-ritualized religion since the dawn of time can make its priests say yes, we know, it is rotten, and hard luck, but just do as we say, keep at the ritual, stick it out, give us your money and you'll end up with the angels in heaven for evermore."

Anyone else think it somewhat strange to watch members protest the statements of a BYU professor, when they are totally consistent with what the church taught for a number of years?
Not really. While there is are doctrinal aspects in Bott's statements, such as God did indeed discriminate (based on lineage) in Priesthood eligibility (remains LDS doctrine), notions like blacks weren't ready are mere speculation.

Wow. Profound. Is that a statement on Bott's career?
Juliann says he's going to retire in a few months. Convenient.
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.

This is your open dialogue you ask for? It drives me crazy. God, the only way to enjoy this church must be to go deaf and blind to my surroundings. I can't look at this anymore.
Indeed. If the best position is a neutered uncertain non-position then why defend such a position so absolutely?
Whatever appears to be against the Book of Mormon is going to be overturned at some time in the future. So we can be pretty open minded.-charity 3/7/07

Sorry, posted in the wrong thread.
It is my province to teach to the Church what the doctrine is. It is your province to echo what I say or to remain silent.

Joseph: next you should alert the media to the fact that the Church pays BYU professors to publish inflammatory articles and smear pieces in the FARMS Review.

I totally understand. That there was no initial revelation was historically established by the time I was a preteen! That it dragged on til 1978 when it could have been handled earlier is bad enough. That in 2011 the response is "We don't know," is beyond discouraging.
