by the way someday you should read the original script of Harold and Maude, as well as the background about making it. And then you need to tackle the biographies of Ruth Gordon. What a wonder she was!

The Man Who Ate Everything. Jeffery Steingarten's wife is from a Mormon background. I think that may be why he's the only person who can write sensibly on fruitcake (I believe there is actually a good Utah cuisine beyond the jello jokes and funeral potato stereotypes).
