Jeffrey Holland is truly a slick and dishonest individual. He seems to simply ignore facts that do not support his position.

In an article in the Ensign, for example, he wrote that the whole world was covered by water, whereafter the continents of the Eastern and Western Hemispheres separated in a cataclysmic event, and all of this less than 10,000 years ago. I am surprised that Harvard would even let such an ignorant individual on campus, let alone give an public address from there.

Yet the Church seems to put him front and center much of the time. For example, he was the GA that was allowed to be interviewed for the BBC program on the Mormon presidential candidate. And IHMO, he gave a very poor accounting of himself and the Church in that little fiasco.

If Holland is really the best they have, then they don't have much.

The apostles of Mormonism are a real stupid group these days. They are like brain dead zombies walking around repeating themselves over and over like used car salesmen. The apostles are just stupid men who have surrended themselves to becoming yes-men to their prophet and each of them is out to kiss the prophet's ass in their showy signs of affection as if it makes them more spiritual. All of them are do-dos. And Monson is really a joke. Mormonism is anything but revelation and miracles. It's The Church of Nothing New of Dumb-ass Saints.

I believe that this has been discussed on this forum. It must be a slow bash day to have an active thread again.
I intend to lay a foundation that will revolutionize the whole world.

What is your view on the lies that Holland told, such as the one where he states categorically that "not one red cent" of Church money was used?

It is a vain effort, trying to bring bcspace back on topic after he's tried to divert attention from the OP.

Embarrassing.

Blame me. I must have missed it the first time around. I just recently read about the speech and heard the Q&A session, which is why I started this thread now.

Rollo wrote:found Elder Holland's comments on Prop. 8 very dishonest. If the Church chooses to take such an active role in a political campaign, then it should at least own up to it. Very disappointing.

I agree. One thing that bothered me was his insistence that there was no Church money involved. It is true that the Church, as an organization, did not contribute any money. However, there were letters sent out on Church letterhead addressed to members who were considered more "well-off", or wealthy, in their ward, and those members were strongly encouraged to donate money to the Prop 8 movement. I am not making this up. My stepfather, who is a dentist, received such a letter, and I saw it.

So, yes, the Church, as an organization, did not give any money. However, he failed to mention that the leaders of the organization were very strongly urging members, particularly wealthy members, to contribute out of their own pockets.

This was certainly awful, as well. However, it doesn't excuse Holland skirting some important issues.
