Star Wars has an impersonal, disembodied Force that governs the universe and has some kind of sentience ("the will of the Force").

The comeuppance that Belloq and the Nazis get at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark is based on the Ark really belonging to Yahweh.

Henry Jones, Sr. being healed by water from the Holy Grail at the end of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade is based on Jesus really being the Messiah.

But Star Wars is the series that dovetails with the gospel.

What do LDS fear more in movies:

A. Bad language
B. Sexual content
C. Violence

In what order, would these be rated by LDS on a bad to worse scale?

I'm thinking C, A, then B.

A, B. They don't care about C unless swearing is involved.

I once had a nice young LDS woman tell me, in total seriousness, that the nudity in Schindler's List is okay because the nude people are at a concentration camp.

Leia is also tortured off-screen in Star Wars. Han is tortured on-screen in The Empire Strikes Back. A couple of droids are tortured in Return of the Jedi.

Is torture okay?

Droid torture is Ok, as well as sex with a droid...as long as the sex is implied in hot and heavy innuendos only!

Sexual content is outer darkness, and foul Language is hardcore telestial. Blasphemy cursing takes you right to the edge of outer darkness however. Violence, well, good ol' violence is Terrestial to Celestial depending on the context.

My coworker just notified me of a potential conflict within this policy. He reminded me of the many instances of violence in Star Wars (i.e. chopping off of limbs, etc.).

After thinking about it for a while, I realized that the policy stems back to the sexual nature of Indiana Jones movies. Also, the whole Force idea dovetails very nicely into the Holy Ghost/priesthood paradigm.

What do you think? Are the two Harrison Ford movies equally bad influences on children or does the sexual nature of the one tip the scales?
Zee.

Star Wars: Incest, Luke kisses his sister.
Star Wars: Princess encourages and leads Adikian astray from his Jedi obligations.
Star Wars: violence and death from beginning to end.
Star Wars: "Force idea dovetails Holy Ghost/Priesthood paradigm" i.e. Satan's counterfeit.

With drawing the line on movies and some other things, there is often no reasonable explanations of including one and excluding another.

They are both kids movies.

This is the dumbest conversation ever. Sorry, Zee, you need to be hanging out with new friends. Indiana Jones and Star Wars are both awesome classic movies! (And even though Harrison Ford is 70, he is still HOT!)

I agree. Neither movie is Basic Instinct...

Ah, the culture I was forged in.

Dude, if you can escape the culture by sewing curtains and shirts, you can surely escape by letting the kids watch Indiana Jones.
