I recall when a google report came out that UT has the highest amount of online porn subscriptions in the US, the apologetic spin was that there are more non-members who have migrated to UT in recent years which could be the reason for the spike. Yeah right. More non members in UT than any other state in the US? I doubt it. Yeah all the porn subsriptions that put UT on the map as consuming the most porn in the US was due to an influx of non-members. Yeah that's the ticket. Pour me another glass of kool-aid and tell me the story about how Jesus really drank grape juice and not wine at the Last Supper.

Lets put it this way: It is hard to find a porn shop in utah. That being the case, those who are interested in porn do go to the internet for porn subscriptions. However, in many states it is not that difficult to locate a shop that sells porn dvds etc. Also, I am sure that there are nonmembers hitting the porn sites on the internet. I just don't think that members would risk a constant credit card charge every month. The wife would definitely ask for more details about such a charge.

So you think people go to shops to find porn elsewhere in the US?
About Joseph Smith.. How do you think his persona was influenced by being the storyteller since childhood? Mastering the art of going pale, changing his voice, and mesmerizing his audience.. How do you think he was influenced by keeping secrets and lying for his wife and the church members for decades?

As happy as I am to see Why Me lament the plight of consumers looking for a reputable pornography shop in Utah, I would like to offer a couple of observations from representing one of the parties in many, many nice little LDS couples in Utah getting a divorce.

1. Members do sometimes risk the credit card charge to which Why Me refers. And they do sometimes get caught by their eternal companion.

2. It is not very hard to get a credit card without telling your eternal companion and have the statements sent to an address other than your home.

3. It is not very hard to get a pre-paid Visa or Master Card that your eternal companion does not know about, for which statements are never sent out because it is all pre-paid.

4. It is easier to hide files on a computer than to hide physical DVD's.

5. People currently go to porn stores in lieu of the internet at approximately the same rate that they send telegrams instead of email.

In closing, I would like to thank Why Me for this episode of "TMI: The Mormon Discussions Edition."

Virus risk could be a problem. With paid porn from a reputable site, the risk of a virus is almost zero.

Utah certainly has a lot of restrictions. And people may find it difficult to rent a porn dvd or buy one. In New York, no problem. I think that many nonmembers have very little opportunity to buy porn or rent porn.

I do not believe that Mormon men would risk their marriage with a monthly porn bill. True, the bill doesn't have a porn site type name but a monthly charge is hard to explain.

Common sense. The pay porn sites that are legit have good virus protection since they take credit card numbers etc. However on all free porn sites there are viruses of different types. They are not safe.

I would be weary to equate the high porn usage in utah to Mormons and not to the other people who may find it difficult to find over the table porn from shops.

Nice try darth but the risk is still high. To go through with all the deceit that you have in your numbered statements would put a damper on any enjoyment that one would get from such porn sites. It would not be worth it. Eventually, the guy will get caught. Many women who are savvy on the computer can spot a hide a mile away. Not to mention the time it would take to watch porn from a paid site. The legit sites usually have a movie that is at least 30 minutes long. Eventually the poor guy will make a mistake and get caught either by having to explain a credit card charge or by not taking precautions when finished watching the porn.

My guess is: most of these porn subscriptions are by single men and women who can be alone in the shelter of their own home, and watch a movie in peace. And this would cut across the spectrum of religious belief and tastes.

I am speaking from experience, not making things up based on suppositions. People risk their marriages for all kinds of reasons, and they usually are not being particularly rational when they take those kinds of risks.

I've represented parties in over 100 divorces in Utah, Why Me. How many have you done?
