"And the human knew the source of life, the woman of him, and she conceived and bore Cain, and said, 'I have procreated a man with Yahweh.'" Gen. 4:1, interior quote translated by D. Bokovoy.

Cate,
You seem to be doing things just right. How refreshing!
Unfortunately, I am not allowed in any Relief Society craft classes because I'm male. :(

You'd also have to get a sex change for that.

The only true way of calling:
1. The holy ghost reveals the proper candidate to the authorized leader. (the authorized may or may not be the competent one)
2. That leader uses his free agency, so supervises or modify or accept the choice (by the way I don't understand, why is the free will in Mormonism forbidden expression ...)
3. Somebody will be called.
Prayer and/or feast may be inserted into this route.

1. It isn't dangerous to enjoy the writings of Joanna Brooks and we can freely discuss her ideas.
2. Mitt Romney isn't special.
I approached these two fantasies as if they were reality during a conversation with some out-of-Utah TBMs. I found very quickly that in the world of the TBM, these are indeed fantasies.
Reality check.
I had a similar experience too when I first started looking reading about some of the inconvenient truths about Mormonism. I learned very quickly that it is completely unwelcome to discuss anything like that with any Mormons that I knew in my personal life. An extremely bad idea.
Thanks,

I once raised an uncomfortable truth with my spouse.
I was surprised.
What I said was "Actually Joseph Smith was polygamous, he had over thirty wives and 11 of them already had living husbands."
What Mrs Drifting heard was "I don't you love you anymore."
“We look to not only the spiritual but also the temporal, and we believe that a person who is impoverished temporally cannot blossom spiritually.”

I'm sorry to hear this, Drifting. I wonder what you could say about Joseph Smith that would translate back to "I love you again!"
Maybe you could say, "Joseph Smith was an excellent wrestler."

I am going to try that.
"Honey, I've found out what Joseph was doing in the barn with Fanny..."
I'll let you know how that goes....
I once had a formal discussion with a SP. He asked me why I wouldn't sustain the Prophet etc. I answered that I didn't agree with how they dispersed tithing funds. To which he replied that we didn't know how tithing funds were dispersed. I started to get out of my briefcase the financial accounts for the Church in the UK and he blushed and said that we didn't have time and he had another interview. I said that's funny because my Dad (the exec sec) had told me I was his last appointment. He blushed and said he meant he had to go somewhere else.
TBM's are definitely scared of hearing the truth.

I certainly was as a TBM. I knew there was critical information out there, but I didn't want to know about it. Now I try to force myself to read material critical of my viewpoints. Otherwise I'll just fall into the same trap.
