Their actions speak volumes about the type of people they are.

I would like to issue a public apology on their behalf for their poor choice of actions that reflect so badly on the Church.

I've met Dr. Peterson several times and have interacted with him electronically many times. You couldn't meet a nicer person or one more effective in interpersonal relations. You couldn't find a more effective public speaker. And, I think, a more effective academic writer.

I don't agree with everything he has written or said, but then again, I'm the type to disagree at some level with whomever I might perceive to be a bigger shot than myself.

I disagree with the way this whole MI wind-down occurred and how everybody has acted, but I'm not in academia. But my grandfather was, and the little perqs that go with tenure are jealously guarded, so I can see how somebody would not like losing an office or being discharged by email.

But I do find a bishop maligning Dr. Peterson anonymously to be very poor form.

I don't know Dr. Hamblin; I have never met him. But the way he hangs dirty laundry on his front stoop distresses me.

Bill Hamblin and Daniel Peterson should be both personally and professionally embarrassed by their actions, but they are not.

They have both trampled the temple gates on their way out and they have torched the fields after leaving the FARM. Their actions speak volumes about the type of people they are.

It is the ultimate in chutzpah for you to presume to "issue a public apology" on behalf of anyone outside of your claimed (let alone your actual) ecclesiastical jurisdiction.

The vast majority of LDS would have handled this same situation in a much more mature and professional manner. Everyone gets fired at some point in their life, how one handles it reflects the type of person they are.

So does how one treats one's ideological opponents when they are down.

What true dignity lies in silent suffering? Dr. Peterson was in need of dramatic catharsis and so he took it. I think many of his writings over the last several years have reflected all the criticism given to him. It is hard to write with serenity when the arrow of outrageous fortune is protruding from your chest.

I will never be distressed/ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes.

However, I am greatly distressed and ashamed of the behavior of some people who purport to be LDS. I will always do what I can (including publicly apologizing) to repair the damage that these individuals do to the Church and others.
