HAHA!

I said something similar over at LDS.net once and got in trouble (a warning). I asked how we know the prophet isn't secretly practicing polygamy today (or something like that).

I guess it was offensive.

I agree with others that they would not have any more success then Joseph did in keeping it secret. How dare you ask that question over there.

If the prophets and apostles say they are going to secretly marry multiple women, why would a TBM question that? The way TBMs on this board defend Joseph Smith's behavior, they would gladly hand over their wife to Thomas Monson if asked.

It's only loose dynastic sealings, so why not?

Seriously, this is just presentism. ;-) That is, if the same crap that Joseph Smith did 170 years ago happened in the present, there'd be floods of apostates from the church, and also those who stayed loyal, just like there were 170 years ago.

Past history, reenacted in the present, would look pretty damning. I guess that's why the Mopologists are so scathing in their criticisms of presentism.
Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen
