I've been looking for the origin of this rumor since I first read Martha's response to it. I still don't know. My guess is it originated with one of her many book "reviewers" after Leaving the Saints.

I have read the book (a couple of years ago) and I don't recall this being a case of recovered memories either....but I may be mistaken.

Also, If I recall correctly, there was physical evidence that Martha Beck had been abused (scarring, etc.) that was discovered by a doctor. Now, that doesn't mean it was her Father doing the sexual abuse, but it sounded like there was good evidence that she had been abused by someone when she was younger.

I just remember feeling very sad for all involved by the time I finished the book.
