He mentioned coming across a post on Mormon Discussions, so I did a quick internet search and found you here. The man does not know John personally, but because of your post, he learned of his story and wanted to do something. I just wanted you to know that because you wanted to help out, others wanted to help out, as well.
He asked that we encourage others to contribute and he will match their donation until Christmas, up to a total of $1,000. This man warmed my heart, and left me in awe yet again of the kindness and generosity of those all around us.
Let's make this happen! To max out the match, the goal is totaling 6K before Christmas Day. Please consider contributing and sharing this with your friends on Facebook, through email, message boards, groups-- anywhere to help get the word out. A sincere thanks and Merry Everything!
Great news Bailey, thanks! To clarify, you are an admin of what site? youcaring.com?
It’s relatively easy to agree that only Homo sapiens can speak about things that don’t really exist, and believe six impossible things before breakfast. You could never convince a monkey to give you a banana by promising him limitless bananas after death in monkey heaven.
It's at $5,500 as of right now. Good job Analytics, good job.

Analytics—I realized I should have clarified that. I am an admin to the fundraiser for John McLay ('A New Place Fund for John McLay on youcaring.com). I can also give you credit for helping me find this site. Good stuff all around!
Please feel free to share with others on any more groups or boards in which you are member. ;) Thanks again for getting the word out.
I admire his story and hope more will contribute. His courage is amazing. How many doubters swallow their doubts to remain employed despite knowing it is a lie? I wish I could have given more.
I am sorry that John felt the need to leave the Church—I hope he will return someday—but I admire his integrity. He followed his conscience and did so at great personal cost. I too would like to have given more to help him get back on his feet. I wish this fundraising effort well.
