From what other commenters on this thread are saying, it sounds to me like Doctor Scratch was right to call Mopologetics dead. Boylan appears to be the best candidate for reviving old-school Mopologetics right now and is learning the hard way that he's got a dog that just won't hunt.

Bill Hamblin learned this same hard lesson from Phillip Jenkins. I have to admire Boylan at least a little bit for trying. Within the alt-right, being a Mormon fundamentalist is probably the least cool option and so he's got to have the nastiest big-dog bark around to get momentum for his project. It looks like FARMS is fine allowing Boylan to suffer.

One of the most astonishing things happened during the Hamblin-Jenkins debate. For all his bluster and bravado, Peterson remained completely silent. It had to have been humiliating for him, hut he didn't dare respond to Jenkins because it was absolutely clear how far out of his league he would have been. As must as I dislike mopologetics, it was truly a cringe-inducing experience to watch his cowardice, over and over and over.

Podcasting is hard work for typically no payback. Antics to generate buzz, negative or positive, are to be expected. That being said, ultimately it all comes down to content and whether there is an audience for that content. It seems like maybe Boylan is beginning to realize how small the audience is for his particular product. It’s possible this message board is half of it.

I don’t even know the particulars of what ya’ll are talking about, and I’m considered relatively well-read among my fellow postmo’s of my peer group.

The reason? Why clarify what good, ole’ fashioned heuristics already tell you to either ignore or pay attention to? So far, I haven’t seen any secular, anthropological models for either the New or Old World revolutionized by material evidence of the Mormon movement’s truth claims.

More importantly- I haven’t seen the scholarly guardians of these models pay serious attention to these apologists or their arguments. Is it a heuristic artefact built on fallacy? Yes. But I can’t deny that these peers of mine have much more exciting hobbies and arguably better balanced lives.

Nobody has time to become experts in everything for which they rely upon experts.

The Jenkins-Hamblin debate effectively ended when Jenkins told Hamblin he would concede if Hamblin could show him one shard of Nephite pottery. Not being able to, the debate was over.

LDS apologists learned an important lesson that day: They would need to have the BYU Art Department produce realistic Nephite pottery fragments and have them transported back in time and scatter a ton of them throughout Central Mexico in order to ever take part in another such debate.

HQ never responded to the funding request for this project.

What a wild ride. Thanks for that I have never read that exchange. It is very similar to Gemli on Dan's blog. eta. . . I haven't seen a beating like that in a long time. It seems like a lot of current apologists copied this debate tactic. Offer some obscure 500 page book to read then disengage when they refuse.

I know you like to make puns, but for the people who are new to the jenkins hamblin debate series, that is not a true summary at all.
