Is this the Peterson Obsession Board?

I've seen no evidence to indicate this is the so-called "POB". Until the association is made by the full name of the site or includes a link, this hypothetical board could be the MAD board, or some other board, I don't know all the Mormon boards out there.

Good points. One rather obvious interpretation is that it simply refers to whatever “board” that Peterson is obsessed with.

I remember Dan posting years ago. I do think he is talked about a lot here. As a bystander with no strong opinion of Dan, it does seem that people are interested in what he has to say and what he does. Would I call it obsessed? Don't think I'd go that far. He seems to talk about people here too. And sometimes the criticism looks fair. But there have been times where I've thought the inclusion of him in the odd discussion here seems unnecessary and irrelevant. We do need to take into account that there is a long history there. He was a part of this community and active in it. People have developed deep relationships whether that be positive or negative. And I also don't think anything is said that is dangerous or considered defamatory or anything like that but I can see why an outsider would think people are obsessed with him here.

I don't think that anyone has answered your implied question, Noel, but Prof. P. used to participate here - or, at least, on the predecessor of this board, Mormon Discussions.

Depending on whose narrative you accept, he

• withdrew due to a combination of personal attacks and unserious arguments, or
• was driven from the field by his inability to counter the criticisms laid out here, or
• other causes I can't think of right now.

Many folks here appear to have an axe to grind with Dr. P., and in my opinion some treat him very disrespectfully. (I have to confess, to my shame, that I have piled on on occasion.)

If you would like to avoid a long search through the history of the board(s), I would suggest that the good Rev. Kish is as evenhanded a commenter on which of the two options is closer to the "truth", or perhaps what the balance is between them.

I don’t like the fact that this board is regularly called the POB, but no other apologist is so regularly featured in thread titles, memes, and general insult here as DCP is. On occasion new arrivals have mused about the apparent fixation on DCP on this board. So, I definitely see where the moniker has come from.

And I find it unfortunate, since it is a distraction from the many other interesting and enlightening things that have been posted here.

I have always felt that using others as an excuse for our own actions is childish. And yet so many adults do exactly that.
