Re: Fairview Texas on the McKinney LDS Temple meeting
I had a thought that probably wouldn't work, but is fun to think about. Fairview should play chicken with the church about having an angle Moroni on the temple. They should compile all the temples, point out how the vast majority have an angel Moroni on top and demand that the church include one since it clearly is an important part of temples. There is at least as much, if not more support for temples needing an angel Moroni than that the steeple must be super tall. Granted it would make it more of an eyesore, but Nelson doesn't want to be associated with the peculiar people aspect of Mormonism and be weird. I think he would rather see a smaller steeple than an angel Moroni. If the church counters that not all temples have angel Moroni statues on top, Fairview can then ask why not all have them. I can't think of many modern temples that don't have one until more recent ones except when zoning or other local ordinances made it not work. Fairview then can point out that the exterior of the temple very clearly can be altered to fit with the local ordinances.

Re: Fairview Texas on the McKinney LDS Temple meeting
I think the planning commission should look at other temples being constructed and where they are being constructed. The church is leveling meeting houses in residential areas and putting up Temples that are blocking the views of green hills the peaceful neighborhood had for decades. Suddenly the peaceful mornings are now nothing more than loud construction crews working six days a week, first to demolish the meeting house and then build the Mormon Temple. The old chapel that said, "Visitors Welcome" will vanish and a "Temple" for a few select individuals will be the replacement. The planning commission should also find out exactly where the funding came from for the buildings given the Ensign Peak shenanigans.

I think this is a watershed moment also. The use of the testimonies and that arrogant brash lawyer won't go away soon. The mayor's response, as well as several council members was one of the most accurate descriptions of how inept members and leaders are at reading a room. Telling people what they do and don't understand tends to raise the ire of people. Texas isn't Utah.

And they haven’t stopped. They’re suing the council, likely until it bankrupts the small town in legal fees and they submit.Rivendale wrote: ↑Sat Aug 10, 2024 8:20 pmI think this is a watershed moment also. Does Texas have anti slapp laws? I may have the wording wrong but it is a device used by the courts to stop someone from suing merely for the sake of bankrupting someone.drumdude wrote: ↑Sat Aug 10, 2024 9:43 pmAnd they haven’t stopped. Re: Fairview Texas on the McKinney LDS Temple meeting
I know a thing or two about Fairview, strangly enough. Not likely to bankrupt the town. Fairview is not a poor town. Quite the opposite. And there will be tar and feathers if it comes down it. This town is not going to submit to the Billion Dollar Bullies.
Pissing all over the landscape. The funny thing is, the Dallas temple would actually pass the Fairview zoning ordinances. Why the MormBullies insist on this monstrosity is a mystery to me, even after listening to the cry-bullies at the zoning commission meeting. It's as if some insane person is behind the push for this design. Here’s an artists rendering of how it will look in the neighborhood.
