This one may have some twists. A pro-gun guy of the neighborhood who heard the shot got boots on the ground to investigate. He spoke with a guy in the parking lot who knows the suspect very well. He said the suspect is a stand-up guy who would do anything to help people and is utterly baffled as to why he'd do this.

In other news, the President has condemned the incident as an attack on Christianity. I'd like all the MAGA evangelicals of the board to note that the man you put before both the Bible and Jesus himself just called Mormons Christians.

This is just terrible. My heart goes out to the victims and their families. Lately I'm afraid to look at the news anymore. It just keeps getting worse and worse.

There is a social media post making the claim that the shooter was demanding that LDS folk “profess Jesus” and then shot them. I hope this is some kind of hoax post. The author claimed to know family of victims of the crime.

Not looking like a hoax though.

If the shooter had agreed with Trump, this might not have happened.

I am very sorry to hear of what appears to be a horrible act of violence against peaceful people and their children, to all appearances simply because they were Mormons.

While the man who committed the acts is culpable for them, we must ask who it was who planted the ideas in his mind that led him to think that what he did was right and good.

Oh I agree, the President has no clue about Christianity, and doesn't know that Mormons are an out-group to his base and are tolerated because of their propensity to go completely off the rails in political agreement.

The same insanity that fuels my right-wing friend's political nonsense fuels his evangelical anti-Mormonism. It's the same kind of shocking expose nonsense short of facts and high on hype.

The fact this guy was demanding ward members to accept Jesus or be killed pretty much cements him as either an evangelical anti-Mormon (I won't name names for now of those on our forum who fit this label) or a LDSFF-style member who thinks Mormonism has strayed too far to the left.

Good lord. Even Mormons know that when they see a truck with American flags they are dealing with a right-wing nut-bag and are in grave danger.

All my family are Mormon and I'm sure were in church today. A young relative of mine was at the shooting at UVU. At the same time, this guy was a veteran, as was another recent right-wing mass murderer whose trials as a soldier were even featured in a book, and veterans aren't in a good place. Instead of helping vets, the present administration is cutting their funding, and all our supporters of the regime on this board are the ones who caused this. Hound of Heaven came in with a sock puppet recently pretending to be a veteran, and taking the position that he doesn't want to be considered a victim, and doesn't want the help of government. Insane! Our veterans need more help, not less help.

Given the sentiments towards serving military personnel frequently and vociferously expressed by some Americans, one might have hoped that the dominant response to any veteran (or pseudo-veteran) who says "I don't want your help" would be to say something like "Well, if you ever change your mind, the help is there for you whenever you want it. And do you know what? You'd be doing us a favour if you accepted some help to allow us to show our gratitude for your service."
