What would be awesome is if college football introduces promotion and relegation for BCS eligibility every year.
This is something that would benefit America. I ain't for taking much from Mother England or any parts of the Commonwealth and bringing it to America. But there are a few things worth bringing to the States: Cadbury Chocolate, Cherry Ripe, Big Bash Cricket and Relegation. MLB and the NBA would be much better leagues if there was Relegation and a few teams got sent down every year. College football too.

BYU just didn't look like it belonged on the same field as Texas Tech. However, it's being reported that BYU will commit almost $30 million per year to pay its football players. They should be able to buy some great talent with that kind of money.

From Cougarboard:

https://www.cougarboard.com/board/messa ... &tab=top10
Where does the additional $10-15 million come from?

With professional sports, who ever pays the most in wages, consistently season after season, will come to dominate the league. It’s simple maths and statistics. If BYU spends the most on wages, consistently season after season, it won’t be faith that’s helping them triumph.
Well, I’ve been a Legacy Member of the Cougar Club since 2006 and this last year I’ve been contacted to donate more than in the last 10 years combined.

I’m sure most of money will come from donors, and the rest of the money will come from its hoard/tithing.

Sucks to be on the outside looking in again, but we’re just not an elite team. We’re good, but not elite.

On the upside, I’m not sure things have ever looked so positive for BYU athletics going forward as they do right now. For better or worse, there will be a lot of millionaire athletes at BYU.

I think the LSU model that Cam has pointed out is going to get a lot of attention - and it is going to backfire. It is one thing to have BYU, USC, Tulane and Vanderbilt getting in the game with their private funds and donors. It's a whole 'nuther thing when taxpayers are funding the salaries and players. It's one thing to spend the widow's might and win. But, when the widow is spending money on a loser or, worse, the rival teams, this will be peak FUBAR in record time.

Well, BYU is going to pay Sitani ~$10M/year now Thanks to Penn State trying to poach him, AND BYU committed to increasing its NIL budget to $15M/year. I’m sure the college football arms race is about to explode. Do not be surprised when you see $100M/year player budgets. What Indiana did this year will have big programs like USC and Miami tripping over themselves to be the next big rebuild storyline.
Yep, the cat is definitely out of the bag for college sports. And, thanks to an ironclad ruling by the Supreme Court, nobody can put that cat back in.

In a few years, 100M year player budgets will be the norm for the P5 Programs. BYU’s basketball team already pays 4 of their players over a million per year, with AJ making almost 10 million per year. That’s a lot of money for an 18 or 19 year old.

Deseret News reported a different reason.
Mission over money: The inside story of why Kalani Sitake chose BYU over Penn State
https://www.deseret.com/sports/2025/12/ ... enn-state/

Sure. The jump from 4 to 10 million wasn't the reason at all.

Deseret news
...Without revealing figures, BYU announced Tuesday that it will pay Sitake much, much more money to remain its head coach. Still, he walked away from a Penn State offer that was worth millions more per year...
Also:
...According to Dylan Dawson of the Penn State Pulse, the Nittany Lions were prepared to offer Sitake $11 million a year for six years...

Deseret News' credibility is nonexistent.

BYU has accepted the Pop Tarts bowl. Seems like an enduring legacy to what Brigham was thinking.

I was really hoping BYU would be invited to the Snoop Dogg Gin & Juice Bowl. Maybe next year....

BYU did really well this year, with both losses going coming from Texas Tech, a very good football program. BYU actually looked really good the first quarter, held TT on their first drive then scored first. Then they kind of started to fizzle out and TT came on strong. When Bachmeier hurt his ankle, that kind of sealed the deal.

Anyway, I'm still a Cougs fan and it was a fun season to watch.

Let's hope Bachmmeier doesn't hit the transfer portal. Cougarboard is reporting Oregon, Ole Miss and Texas have already reached out. BYU is going to have to renegotiate his NIL deal if they want to keep him.
