I seem to recall sometimes seeing a comment here and there were some member does think it is a faithful podcast/YouTube video and then they comment about wolf in sheep's clothing. It would seem though that could sort of buttress confusion, but then also discredit it cause clearly the member was able to figure it out. I guess the unwashed masses might have it harder, but JD has had plenty of Mormons beyond Brighamite sect.

but yeah, there is now a lawsuit LDS Church sues ‘Mormon Stories’ podcast host, saying branding is causing confusion about affiliation

I think JD's lawyers can and should do other things, but clearly the trademark was abandoned effectively by Nelson, Mormon Tabernacle Choir even got renamed. It was a victory for satan. They can't put the genie back into the bottle.

Just saw this link to the complaint https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap ... 75.1.0.pdf

First sentence
Plaintiffs Intellectual Reserve, Inc. and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints
Someone should tell them it is a lower case d, they do seem to get it right other places.
15. Plaintiffs have continuously used in commerce marks incorporating the term
Mormon for nearly 200 years. Specifically, the Church uses the marks Mormon, BOOK OF
Mormon, Book of Mormon STORIES, Mormon MESSAGES, Mormon
CHANNEL, Mormon TABERNACLE CHOIR, Book of Mormon VIDEOS, Mormon
BATTALION, Mormon HANDICRAFT, and others (collectively, the “Mormon Marks”) in
connection with the Church’s religious, humanitarian, genealogical, historical, educational, and
broadcasting services, as well as written and audiovisual materials such as podcasts, videos, digital
materials, instructional materials, books, photos, paintings, and music, and a wide variety of other
related goods and services.
Mormon Tabernacle Choir was abandoned in 2018 and is still not the name of the choir. Mormon Handicraft stores and sections in Deseret Bookstores are no longer there. Google search shows only generic Etsy shops or old books or similar, not something still in use.

I have jokers on DCP’s Facebook wall telling me that the name Mormon was not the issue. They told me I should “do my research.” Funny how doing research has become an empty piece of rhetoric.

I mean, what the heck, man?!?!?! If he puts the disclaimer out there, that should be good enough.

Ironically, since the church has decided the word Mormon is taboo - every Mormon should easily know it’s not an official church publication.

I wonder if that signals that "Mormon" is about to become The Designation That Came In From The Cold.

“Do your research” is code for “I don’t know what I’m talking about.

I tend to agree. I mean, if I disagree with someone, and I can explain why they are wrong, I’m going to set them straight in clear terms. Telling people instead to “Do research!” is just trying to imply that one knows more than they do, while conspicuously failing to demonstrate it. So it’s a sign of ignorance, not of knowledge.
