I must ask that you read "The Language Instinct" by Steven Pinker. Not because he directly addresses this "an hero" thing but because it will put you in the right frame of mind to receive my detailed, rational and irresistable explanation of why "an hero" sucks while an "an honor" is just great and why anyone ever thought otherwise. Resist the grammar maven.

when believers want to give their claims more weight, they dress these claims up in scientific terms. When believers want to belittle atheism or secular humanism, they call it a "religion". -Beastie

Ms Jack. Just a thought The idea of a contingent being and a neccesary being. Would this mean that every God, including the current Mormon Heavenly Father are contingent beings? Going backwards would not Mormon Theologians have to admit there is some "neccessary being" ?

If Ostler apologized, then I see no problem with giving him a pass--even if his apology was made privately. Of course, he did this publicly, and so if he wants total public absolution, then his apology (if he made one) probably should be made public. I don't really care about dragging this out extensively, but I'll just point out what's on my mind: Ostler's doing this is an echo of the numerous threats/acts that the hardcore Mopologists have done/made. So, him openly doing this w/ no apology says to me that his mindset is basically the same, rhetorically speaking, as the Mopologists'. And that is a real disappointment.

"I’ve had a front-row seat to exchanges on the Internet between LDS scholars and various critics of Mormonism and people of other faiths since I was 16. They have a tendency to seek out critics who are far below their caliber and argue with them just to belittle them and make a cheap example out of them. I totally approve of the practice—it’s entertaining to watch!—but I just wanted to make sure that wasn’t your intention here. " http://ldstalk.wordpress.com/2009/03/11 ... xaltation/
