A prairie province. That’s all I can say.Res Ipsa wrote: ↑Thu Sep 09, 2021 1:10 amIf you don’t mind my asking, which Province are you from?Canadiandude2 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 09, 2021 12:59 am

Yeah, lots of garbage to go around.
Which is depressing as I usually come here for the great RadioFreeMormon content, and genuinely enjoy the fact-checking stuff for whenever I wander onto Peterson’s blog and see what he’s up to.
Funny story, the first thing I ever read by Peterson was his MI
resignation ?e-mail- which just shows how my generation is becoming first acquainted with him.
There’s a lot to discuss on apologetics nowadays, but when I read this forum’s feed, I can’t help but expect more from those of us who’ve worked our way past our orthodox religious programming.
I keep wondering why on earth Peterson is kept up late at night by ?Shades (I think it’s Shades) when it’s people like Dr.’s Brooks, Petrey, and Park that seem to really cut into the historical and contemporary issues within the church that really make us re-evaluate things.
These folks and folx manage to shake the powers that be *and* remain pretty decent while doing it. While I get that anonymity makes a big difference, I kid you not that even the r/Mormon Reddit thread genuinely seems less toxic and more inviting.
Sorry, not to carp, but it just seemed so odd and frustrating.

Now I'm offended, Res - you ask the new guy which province he's from, but you've never asked meRes Ipsa wrote: ↑Thu Sep 09, 2021 1:10 amIf you don’t mind my asking, which Province are you from?Canadiandude2 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 09, 2021 12:59 am

I know - in the real world it seems to be more common to offer perks to new subscribers than it is to offer retention goodies, so I should just suck it up.

You've come to the right place for answers, Canadiandude2.Canadiandude2 wrote:I keep wondering why on earth Peterson is kept up late at night by ?Shades (I think it’s Shades) when it’s people like Dr.’s Brooks, Petrey, and Park that seem to really cut into the historical and contemporary issues within the church that really make us re-evaluate things.
First of all, DCP and substance are like oil and water. He doesn't do substance. And so, if there is a scholar out there doing something really interesting and engaging, there is a reason why he's not looking at that, and instead, spending his time battling trolls on his blog. Nearly 20 years ago on the precursor to this message board, which was a home for several old-school LDS scholars, DCP stayed out of the deep end of the pool. He would claim that the Internet isn't the place for real scholarship, and that if he wants scholarship, he'll peruse journals that the message board detractors likely didn't have access to. Interestingly, for all the heavy scholarship he implied kept him occupied, we haven't seen much by way of his own scholarly publishing or commentary come to the light of the day through any venue, including SeN.
You're right that the turf of the scholars you've noted is the grounds upon which his stay at the MI came to a close. It was a tactical error on his part to not be tuned in to the power that movement held. He does send out minions via Interpreter to challenge the new era of PC Mormonism, but it's less through direct engagement, and more through Interpreter publishing their own reactionary commentary on the Proclamation of the Family and stuff like that.
We can't take farmers and take all their people and send them back because they don't have maybe what they're supposed to have. They get rid of some of the people who have been there for 25 years and they work great and then you throw them out and they're replaced by criminals.

Maybe this is the right place after all…
Y’see it’s stuff like this that we don’t get in the Reddit’s. Many of us are so unconnected or so young that we never knew of these kinds of stories.
We suspect, we opine, we can look at what few resources we have, but we sometimes lack the broader data points which helps bring the wider picture to relief.
