Re: Church comments on SEC settlement
If the majority of Mormons knew that the church was self-sufficient and didn't need their money, many Mormons would feel immense financial relief for themselves and their families.
Yet the leaders keep preaching that the starving family must tithe, in the hopes that some financial miracle comes their way.
Evil is a very strong word, and I think it fits very well for the leaders of the Mormon corporation.

The law of tithing was given at a time when the church was desperately in need of tithes. There are many instances in the lives of the saints at that time and thereafter in which they strongly witness/believe that they have been greatly blessed as a result of obedience to this commandment.drumdude wrote: ↑Wed Feb 22, 2023 10:24 pmIf the majority of Mormons knew that the church was self-sufficient and didn't need their money, many Mormons would feel immense financial relief for themselves and their families.

Would you want to take away the promised blessings from individuals for obedience to a law given from heaven?
I’ve had similar experiences throughout my life where I believe adherence to this law has benefitted my family in one way or another.
Will I share those times/experiences here?
I think not.
I’m grateful that the church has above and beyond what it needs, financially, at this time. We never really know when that rainy day might come.

Prophet of God on Earth:
https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/stu ... 1?lang=engI want to say to you, we may not be able to reach it right away, but we expect to see the day when we will not have to ask you for one dollar of donation for any purpose, except that which you volunteer to give of your own accord, because we will have tithes sufficient in the storehouse of the Lord to pay everything that is needful for the advancement of the kingdom of God. … That is the true policy, the true purpose of the Lord in the management of the affairs of His Church.

Regards,
I have said, and I will repeat it here, that a man or woman who will always pay his or her tithing will never apostatize. It does not make any difference how small or how large it may be; it is a law of the Lord; it is a source of revenue for the Church; it is God’s requirement, and He has said that those who will not observe it are not worthy of an inheritance in Zion. No man will ever apostatize so long as he will pay his tithing. It is reasonable. Why? Because as long as he has faith to pay his tithing he has faith in the Church and in the principles of the Gospel, and there is some good in him, and there is some light in him. As long as he will do this the tempter will not overcome him and will not lead him astray.

I trip up here and there. So far I've managed to not lie about my wealth, or intentionally dishonestly filled out legal forms. So, I guess there's that.MG 2.0 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 22, 2023 10:41 pmI honestly try to be. How about you?Doctor Steuss wrote: ↑Wed Feb 22, 2023 10:34 pm

It's also interesting that the Church edits out just how eager that prophet of the Lord was to see that change in his lifetime. He said (omitted from the LDS website):
"I want to live to see that day, if the Lord will spare my life."
That's how important it was to the Lord's anointed that he bring about the end of tithing settlement. The end of temple requirements. And the beginning of a 100% voluntary tithe.
We now know that no hoard of money is sufficiently large enough for the LDS church to stop pulling 10% of the wealth out of each and every faithful Mormon family.
How the church has changed.
