You have never spoken truer words Dan, especially after what H'eww Nibley did to his daughter.Daniel Peterson wrote:Gadianton wrote:Rest assured CK, Mormons, and especially Mormon apologists, are very narrow and vindictive people on the whole.
Marilyn Arnold, David O. McKay, Warner Woodworth, Terryl Givens, Gordon B. Hinckley, Neal Maxwell, Leonard Arrington, Milton Backman, Gladys Knight, Hugh B. Brown, Richard Scott, Eugene England, Stephen Robinson, James Allen, my wife -- very narrow and vindictive people.
And Hugh Nibley, Truman Madsen, David Paulsen, Jack Welch, Blake Ostler, Kevin Barney, Brant Gardner, Richard Anderson, and Kent Brown? Even narrower. Even more vindictive.
Horrible people. Almost all of them, if not all of them.

By way of "gee whiz" trivia, John Tvedtnes is the same apologist who reviewed a portion of my website for the Review of Books.
You can read what he says about me, and my site, here.
Maybe I'm going nuts, but I thought Tvedtnes put up a pretty decent defense of FARMS there. I do not entirely agree with everything he says, but in some cases I think he carried the day.

Is Scratch a mentally ill TBM with a twisted method for making critics look bad to make the LDS Church, yea, the rest of humanity, look far more palatable by comparison? Or is this all just the most dedicated spoofing I have ever witnessed in my life?

I confess that I don't know. Either of those possibilities seems plausible to me.

You're not going nuts. One thing I'll say for Vedtnes is that he has an extraordinary eye for detail.
What Shades should do is write his own rebuttal to Vedtnes. That way we could weigh both arguments.

Are you telling me that a FT apologist criticized you of making money off of your rather humble-looking (no offense intended) website? Dr. Shades is part of the "Old Cash Nexus"?
Trever,
What do you make of this? Now, you believe in God, right? And if you believe in God, you must believe the Church has crossed his radar given its relative success. And if the Church is one of his forces for the general good of mankind, and if FARMS and FAIR are the largest apologetic representations of the Church, then don't you think it's possible that Scratch has been sent by the Lord to harrow up the apologists unto a remembrance of their sins? To cleanse and sanctify those who would be careless in representing the most holy and reverent Lord of Hosts?
