Shades,
I have not read through all this thread but I did read your OP. Would you mind explaining a bit more about the test you said your companion took? What sort of test was the mission president conducting that would result in a reassignment of a missionary to the States?
"Any over-ritualized religion since the dawn of time can make its priests say yes, we know, it is rotten, and hard luck, but just do as we say, keep at the ritual, stick it out, give us your money and you'll end up with the angels in heaven for evermore."

It was a psychological evaluation. I never took it myself (thank God), but rumor had it that it contained questions such as, "Do you ever get frustrated to the point that you want to hit someone?"
My impression was that it was more or less rigged so that everyone who took it would fail. Unless, perhaps, you lied through your teeth.
"Finally, for your rather strange idea that miracles are somehow linked to the amount of gay sexual gratification that is taking place would require that primitive Christianity was launched by gay sex, would it not?"

i was on my mission in the middle 70's and spent time in the mission home. There was no such test at that time that I knew of. Was this test used outside of your mission? To be honest we had a few missionaries for whom such a test might have been beneficial, but back then it was rare to go home early for anything outside of a moral problem. I do remember one of the American sister missionaries introducing me to her Chilean fiance. I found that odd.

There was no such test in our own mission until he arrived, either. I highly doubt there's been one since.

I seriously doubt it.
