Re: Middle way Mormons are in peril
I think it is way easier to be a Mormon today than it was, oh, say 160-130 years ago. But, maybe that is just me. ;)

I never thought it was "hard" to be a Mormon, at least if you are talking about upholding standards, as why me said. In general, I still follow the standards of the church, though I have a cup of coffee every so often. It wasn't hard to pay tithing or keep the Word of Wisdom or go to the temple or attend my meetings. It seemed to me that, if you were in the church, you just did those things.

Yeah, the only question about outward obedience that I can't answer correctly is the one about my underwear choice. I didn't have a problem with underwear choice (or lack thereof) while I was a believer.
I am actually finding it hard for me to *not* be a Mormon. Thus, a NOM is born.

Re: Middle way Mormons are in peril
And this proves what exactly?
It proves that people eventually see through the charade.
Maybe it proves that people have problems living up to the standards
There is no evidence for this, nor is there any reason to believe this.It is convenient for those still deluded in the faith looking for excuses, however. The problem has to be with the millions who leave. It can't possibly have anything to do with the fact that intelligent people came to the realization that the Church is based on false claims.
It is not easy to be Mormon these days.
Oh BS. So you can't have sex before marriage. You can't drink alcohol, tea, coffee, etc. So what? I can't think of a single person who left the Church because they "couldn't live up to standards." This is a myth that members too dumb to leave have to fall back on.
It is a constant swim uphill as morals and values head in the opposite direction of whay the LDS church teaches. It is also a sign that people may find the secular life a bit easier even though it is probably much more difficult to be secular with a go it alone attitude. Or with a dependence just on other human beings
I think I speak for many ex-Mormons when I say, life was in many ways EASIER as a Mormon. Once you believe the fairy tale, there is less need to be concerned about the unknown. Mormonism claimed provide guarantees for all sorts of crap that is now left up in the air. Many people get pissed off when they find out the Church isn't true, because they really WANT it to be true. So you don't know what you're talking about.

Gee, I'm just all torn up that you didn't choose to elaborate on that by, say, providing some examples of my "petty prejudices."

Worship can consist of prayer or other devotional acts that express faith. It can be very acceptable for a religious people to show obedience. When obedience is called for with no room for personal adjustment, then it smacks of obedience for obedience sake. One should ask who this obedience is directed toward. Is it more toward God or toward the men who present themselves as intermediaries.

Is disbelief with no attempt to regain it excommunicable or not per the handbook?
Nope, never said it was. But it is one of the signs of apostasy (or not).

I didn't say you said it was. I was simply asking for clarification because you were not clear on that. Thanks for the answer. :)

I think I speak for many ex-Mormons when I say, life was in many ways EASIER as a Mormon. Once you believe the fairy tale, there is less need to be concerned about the unknown. Mormonism claimed provide guarantees for all sorts of s*** that is now left up in the air. Many people get pissed off when they find out the Church isn't true, because they really WANT it to be true. So you don't know what you're talking about.
But you are missing something that is a little important. Time. The LDS church does take up a lot of time for many people and for many people this time factor can be a problem. Not just time is involved, but work also. As far as a charade, I doubt it. First, a charade as not been proven. Now if one wants to say that it is all garbage, well, that is an opinion and one is free to have it. Second, another factor is tithing. If one is not such a committed member, this 10 percent can become a problem. The LDS church is more than a religious choice. It is also a lifestyle choice with many commitments.
It is not easy to be a Mormon these days. But then again, it is not easy to be a member of any conservative church. Much easier in the past when morals were more in line with the LDS line of thinking. Today, living with someone is common outside of marriage. Sex before marriage is a common idea now. Not in the past. The media shows a successful life outside the old moral codes of the past and it is certainly no friend of the biblical moral code. The days of I Love Lucy and Leave it to Beaver are gone.
Also, how does one find out that the LDS church is not true? Has you proven it untrue? Please send me your article where you have proven the LDS church untrue. For someone to claim that the LDS church is a matter of opinion. Nothing more.

It may be a little safer. But the LDS church was not that much out of step with the puritan moral codes that always defined the USA, especially at the beginning of the 20th century. And the media barrage of temptations were not present.
Work, time and belief define the LDS way of life. Not many these days have the time to commit to such a life. Not to mention the 10 percent and the fast offering.
