Yes, this. It was Ritner who said that Gee was increasingly visible but not increasingly respected in Egyptological circles.
I find it hard to believe that Gee can be dishonest and ignorant with his Book of Abraham apologetics, but then be a top scholar in Egyptology. I think it is more likely that he does shoddy work in both.
Gee is a walking nightmare of bad apologetics. The two inks theory, the 40 feet of missing scroll, the hieratic was taken randomly from the papyri (at least Gee had the sense to make Schryver give this presentation), and now this business about Cook/Smith made mistakes that I refuse to identify that makes their scroll calculation incorrect. The guy is a joke, a complete and absolute joke.
