Re: Plea to support DCPs blog
Sarcasm feels clever to use, but it's a lot more offensive to receive than we imagine it is—until we receive some.
In the infantry mild admonishments are often expressed as gruesome threats. It's not as bad as it sounds because everyone gets used to it but there's not a lot of concern for hurt feelings.
Even infantry leaders are trained not to be sarcastic, though. You can be as offensive as you like, but not that.

Maybe DCP really is trying to get his own side to quit it and be more congenial... This actually might be sincerity on his part because he knows no one likes his writings and comments anymore because, well, his followers.

Apparently not.Peterson, yesterday wrote:Can we please lay off the demonization and the vilification and the name-calling a bit? Can we try harder to be civil and mutually respectful?
By the way, here is gemli’s comment to Midgley that Midgley was responding toLouis Midgley > gemli
21 hours ago
When gemli, as we have seen hundreds of times, paints himself into a corner, and clearly caught with his profound ignorance showing, he tries to, and utterly fails, appear sort to be merely a harmless dunce--that is, who is slow at learning or clearly stupid, which happens to be true.

Doc, that was a good one. It caught me off guard, and I'm still laughing.

Sure sad to see Louis Midgley fritter away the precious final months of his mortal probation shooting venom at gemli.
What a waste.
What a waste.

Re: Plea to support DCPs blog
Or is it the Lord's plan after all Kish? Without this kind of example literally living before our eyes, does it not cause US to have serious introspection and cause to change our own approaches to folks who differ in thought than we do? It does me, and I still have a long way to go towards charity to others, but dayyum I am seriously going to strive with all my power to never become like this kind of cantankerous, vituperous heinous, anal kind of canard in my approach to others. So, all things said, Midgley is actually of great benefit for all our betterments by way of example, an extremely negative example which is truly not able to be ignored. Isn't this actually how the Lord would do it? I have been pondering this for quite some time now, and it has helped me, in many respects be more thoughtful in my own podcasts and live sessions, even though, sometimes, with apologists, I do get on a roll... but knowing I could be seen as Midgley is, has certainly tempered me more than if I had never witnessed this pathological non-ending mockery of others.

Being called stupid in a sentence like this loses some of its sting.Midgley wrote:When gemli, as we have seen hundreds of times, paints himself into a corner, and clearly caught with his profound ignorance showing, he tries to, and utterly fails, appear sort to be merely a harmless dunce--that is, who is slow at learning or clearly stupid, which happens to be true.

Well, that is certainly a noble sentiment.Dr. Peterson wrote: Can we please lay off the demonization and the vilification and the name-calling a bit? Can we try harder to be civil and mutually respectful?

Yes, I'm feeling certain gemli recognizes this too. All things considered, as I recall gemli remains quite gentle with Midgley despite his petulance.Physics Guy wrote: ↑Thu Apr 14, 2022 8:42 am

Re: Plea to support DCPs blog
Perhaps DCP and Midgley revel in the thought that their continued mockery of dissidents along with the threats to limit or ban critics' presence on sic et non causes angst to their critics.
The only angst I feel is sorrow that Midgley at this point in his long life seems to think what counts in his favour is his academic pedigree and all the beautiful places on earth he's resided in for some length of time, or has visited. And not to forget all the prestigious people he knows!
Not to take away from his pleasure in those ... but according to his writing, they hold ultimate value in his personal ranking system.
I find that sad.

Re: Plea to support DCPs blog
Dan and midge live to name drop. Dan just posted this gem:
“Another of my friend’s sisters is the widow of Elder L. Tom Perry, of the Quorum of the Twelve.”
My friend’s sister’s widow is Elder Perry!
Oh and the widow doesn’t get a name, since her personal worth is completely based on being the wife of a general authority. Even though it’s her story Dan is retelling in his copy paste someone else’s story blog post.
