In the middle of trying to ascribe blame to evangelicals, DCP recently posted this:

One of the families that suffered a terrible loss on that day was the family of Thomas Jacob Sanford, the shooter. Sanford leaves behind a wife and children who must be grieving. They will face financial hardship and psychological trauma as a result of this week’s horrifying events. On top of that, one of the Sanford sons deals with serious medical challenges that require ongoing care, treatment, and specialized support. In the past, the family attempted to raise funds for him, but with limited success.

As a new father, I can testify to the difficulty of raising children these days. I cannot testify to the vastly increased difficulty of raising children with serious medical issues and limited financial ability. But if I had to guess as to the shooter’s motivations and demons (as is currently en vogue) I would probably put this higher on the list than exposure to tweets.

Its initial goal was $50,000, but as of now members have already raised over $48K, and the goal has been increased.

Indeed. I think it’s an exemplary way for how to handle tragedies like this. I hope the family finds some small comfort from it and it helps them heal. Bravo to the Saints who set this up and are donating.

CBS News reported Burton, Mich., city council candidate Kris Johns confirmed Sanford’s anti-Mormon animosity after encountering him during a recent campaign stop: “He said Sanford had a particular dislike of the Latter-day Saints Church, which was previously known as the Mormon church. He said Sanford told him that the church’s followers ‘believe they’re above Jesus.’”

Sanford “‘said nothing about Charlie Kirk, nothing about our current president or past president,’ Johns said. ‘He asked me about guns. I said I support the Second Amendment. We ended the conversation very positively.’”

Thomas Jacob Sanford, the man accused of killing four people and burning down a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints church in Grand Blanc, Michigan, was in relationship with a Mormon woman in Utah that ended painfully, a new report reveals. The New York Times reports that Thomas Sanford's ex-girlfriend was "extremely religious" and he felt pressure to join the church. His friend Peter Tersigni revealed that their relationship ended painfully and Thomas Sanford, when returned to Michigan, was in "rough shape".

He reportedly held a long-simmering hatred for the faith and was struggling with substance abuse, according to people close to him. Sanford's hatred grew out of a breakup he had with a girlfriend more than 10 years prior, his friends told the NYT.

I really think DCP rushed to judgment on these anti-Mormon tweets. We’re already getting more information that the reality is much more complex. A difficult breakup, drug addiction, a child with special needs, and financial hardship. People are multi faceted and we should resist the urge to box them into binary categories. The story of this tragedy seems to have started over a decade ago.

...Some of the board members here seem to enjoy ridiculing, mocking, and disparaging people who do not share their particular political ideology, I'm not sure if hatred is at the center though (perhaps?). If I had to guess, I would guess that it's centered in how they see themselves compared those who do not align with their particular ideologies...

I see. Thank you for explaining your approach, albeit in a roundabout way. I have been at a loss in the past to understand why you would continue to come to a forum where you are so vocal about your dislike of the participants, so I appreciate your explanation that apparently you "enjoy ridiculing, mocking, and disparaging" others.
