"There are two tragedies in life. One is not to get your heart's desire. The other is to get it." ~ George Bernard Shaw
In the intro to his new series on US history playing on Showtime, Oliver Stone made a comment about the need to get past "the tyranny of now". And he implies that history, broad history, is a tool for doing so.
I thought some might find academic interest in this old thread.

Ah, the past. It isn't even past.

And it's not dead, either.*
* - I recently read in a magazine ( I forget which) that the rights to use a similar, original quote was rigorously defended by the Faulkner estate, resulting in a heafty royalty payment I believe. This, of course, is not that quote and any semblance to it is purely coincidental.

As litigious as that foul sonspawn of Joyce...

Quasimodo wrote:Nightlion is truly our only Prophet (unless someone else is holding out on us). I hope he decides to stay. That being said, his issuing of an ultimatum is out of line. I can agree that he is within his rights to voice his opinion, but that should not dictate the actions of anyone else.
Nightlion's claim of being the true Prophet and his claim of divine inspiration might be held as offensive by others here (I've read comments along those lines).
No one has threatened to leave unless Nightlion does.
We are all prophets of some degree. Some are such that the small voice speaks to just their own person. Some have thoughts about their family or friends. Some about a larger group. Whatever the case it is very rare for someone to step forward and declare them self to be a prophet in general sense. I take everyone serious until I know I should not. For me the jury is still out for most people. But that is restricted to behavior. A persons soul should never be judged no matter what.
When I have seen religious objects mixed in vile artwork I was not offended. I was concerned for the person who would use anothers iconic image to instill emotions. I personally think it is a cry for help. To me it is like taking all of your clothes off and running around a football field. If that floats your boat I have to wonder what ocean the boat is in.

Is that a pair on nunchucks draped over the door handle?
I love the gun and the playing cards on the table. Epic picture, Darth.
Picture?
