This reads as a credible report. I don’t believe, from what I’ve read and seen, that the kid in yellow yelled or uttered racial slurs. As a reminder there were black BYU basketball players in and around the ROC section and thus far none of them have offered up supporting testimony of racial slurs being yelled. Multiple people were discreetly embedded in and around the ROC section, and nothing was noted.
by the way, I’ve been in that field house before, and if someone were screaming the n-word there’s simply no way they wouldn’t be heard and wouldn’t be identified. Perhaps 5,000 people seems like a lot, but that’s a tight little venue and literally hundreds of people would’ve witnessed a racist heckler, uh, heckling. There’s just no way those little BYU snitches wouldn’t jump at the chance to prove they’re super not racist and point out or post about how things went down. No way.
I’m leaning toward Rachel Richardson mishearing something, or perhaps just feeling overwhelmed by the tight quarters (having kids scream at you when they’re inches away would fray most people’s nerves, I’m sure), told her teammates who immediately believed her and supported her (as any decent people would, especially in a hostile sporting arena), and then it just snowballed from there.

Clearly not open-and-shut as it came through on day 1.
Maybe she actually just heard something in all the screaming and echoes. Maybe the sinister act was more subtle than second-hand accounts made it out to be.
Conceivably, a sneaky fan could have cupped their mouth, aimed at Richardson and projected a "Grrr" sound, with the intent to convey exactly what was heard.
Either of those two explanations might not be knowable. Both offer the same opportunity for people to come together and heal old wounds.
I would like to think this serves as a prompting for Nelson to be the first church president ever to formally apologize for the church's history of institutionalized racism. Because until/unless that happens, there will always be factions in Mormonism who fundamentally believe dark skin signifies a curse from God.
My understanding is that the players complaint is in two parts. 1. That she suffered racist verbal abuse during the match when serving, and 2. That after the game a male approached her and told her to watch her back.
Point 1. Might be difficult to resolve categorically given noise levels, but Point 2 might be easier to show one way or the other - does the video evidence show a male approaching her after the game?

Some reports even said that the male that approached her was the same male that verbally abused her. What an absolute mess of nonsense. Hook, line and sinker all the way to the media's lower intestine.

Using immaturity as the reasoning behind "racist behaviors" and saying "barbaric things" seems out of place to me. They do affirm though that it is present enough to be noticeable.
From the Deseret News article:
...we do have some people [at BYU] who are immature and reflect racist behaviors for sure and who sometimes say barbaric things.
Like I said earlier:
We can always do better at loving all of our brothers and sisters. That message has consistently been taught over the pulpit now for years.
I don’t think we have to constantly self flagellate ourselves and others though. Some here were a bit too quick on the draw.
But again, we shall see. At this point in time BYU seems innocent as well as the students at the game.
It’s that racist godmother we ought to condemn for her behavior and words, both beforehand and during this unfortunate incident.
And to think she’s actually running for a judgeship down in Texas. Crazy world.

Yeah, Binger, you need to settle down a bit. You are accusing people here of jumping to a conclusion while doing the same thing - jumping to a conclusion that it just had to be a hoax.
Can you blame him? Binger being right about something is like a 1 in 100,000 occurrence. It has only happened in theoretical simulations by the St.Petersburg Hacking Collective. Aleksandr Dugin had postulated this could happen given both infinite regression and leaving the computers on overnight.

You can’t trust this Bozo. He likes to make up captions and post pictures to make fun of those he disagrees with. Not good for much else in my estimation.
Someday he might prove me wrong and actually have something worthwhile and intelligent to contribute besides memes and criticisms.

it does. As though immature minds are naturally racist.

and in Utah as a whole. the latest cases of nba utah fans being racist were unbelievable. it is so aggravating to read what has been said to (or yelled at) black nba players in utah venues.
