Ockham was a theist. Didn't know if you knew.

I get the feeling Christians don't understand what Christ taught, based on the way they think and act. Same deal (assuming you're right and Ockham was a theist in his heart. I've noticed that religious types also like to erroneously claim great thinkers as their own even when they're not. Einstein springs to mind.)

Also, if Ockham was a theist, it wouldn't be the first or the last time a person applied sound logic to everything in their life except their religious beliefs.
God belief is for people who don't want to live life on the universe's terms.

Ockham was a theist. It struck me as funny, apparently headbanger doesn't share my giggles.

I'm not religious, and claim only Frank N. Furter as one of my kind.

Hey Barrelmonkey, welcome to Mormon Discussions. This is a good forum for both Mormons and non-mormons.

It is wonderful to see some folks from the MAD board mosey over here. Because the moderation here is rather laissez fare, I suppose a boatload of true believers could always come over here and give everyone heck without moderator involvement or they could just join in for a pleasant chat.

Where's the most?

Ok, remove the "most" and then explain how 1. "religious types" means EVERYONE who is religious, and 2. What, if anything, William of Ockham being a theist (technically he was a Franciscan Friar) had to do with the bulk of people in general not knowing what Occam's Razor is or how to apply it.

I did a quick look at a bio on William Ockham and he didn't appear very religious to me, particularly for the times he lived in. Without getting into it, keep in mind that in his day one couldn't express heretical views without severe negative ramifications. He apparently had many views which didn't sit well with the religious authorities. Given what I read, I do think if he was alive today he'd have been an atheist.

Thanks moksha. Well I'm not a TBM, I'm more of a voyeur I suppose. But if you knew me from MAD you would know what my interest in LDS is. I love pleasant chats!

Again, it has nothing to do with it. And you say I can't read. I already typed that. Just it struck me as silly, that's all. If it doesn't give you the giggles, just ignore.

You should take everything I say literally.

If you were half as cool as me you wouldn't have to ask.

Let me direct your attention to this
Considering that the razor is often wielded as an argument against theism, it is somewhat ironic that Ockham himself was a theist. He considered some Christian sources to be valid sources of factual data, equal to both logic and sense perception. He wrote, "No plurality should be assumed unless it can be proved (a) by reason, or (b) by experience, or (c) by some infallible authority"; referring in the last clause "to the Bible, the Saints and certain pronouncements of the Church" (Hoffmann 1997). In Ockham's view, an explanation which does not harmonize with reason, experience or the aforementioned sources cannot be considered valid.

Wiki and I both think it is ironic.

Never said it wasn't ironic, Monkeygirl. I just said it wasn't relevant. Nothing personal, mind you. I just like to argue.

And yeah, I know it was a joke, but my humor detector isn't calibrated to "normal", so I tend not to see the joke unless there's a smilie or some such. I also have a bad tendency to take what is posted at face value... I'm about as subtle as a sledgehammer to the crotch most of the time. But that's how I roll...
