That story about Emma and Joseph is obviously false. Joseph would never drink coffee because it was against the Word of Wisdom. Must be a scribal error in the recording of that talk. Probably done by anti-Mormons who wanted to embarrass the Prophet and persecute the Saints.

If you can't prove that isn't true it probably is, and all that.

Either that or Brigham Young was speaking in a secret code that could only be interpreted by a Seer acting under inspiration. The sounds he made with his lips and larynx were heard by the physical ears of the George D. Watt or whoever transcribed the talk as English words that conveyed one meaning ("Emma was the most wicked woman on earth") but which actually mean something entirely different (say, "Shinehah borrows its light from Kolob through the medium of Kae-e-vanrash"). You can't go by what the words on the page say; you have to read with the eye of faith.

Oh, that's good.
Whenever I have used this quote to respond to an apologist feigning offense that I dare question Emma's integrity, they usually change the subject or disappear.

Jaybear wrote:
This Emma Smith?"To my certain knowledge, Emma Smith is one of the damnedest liars I know of on this earth; yet there is no good thing I would refuse to do for her, if she would only be a righteous woman; but she will continue in her wickedness. Not six months before the death of Joseph, he called his wife Emma into a secret council, and there he told her the truth, and called upon her to deny it if she could. He told her that the judgments of God would come upon her forthwith if she did not repent. He told her of the time she undertook to poison him, and he told her that she was a child of hell, and literally the most wicked woman on this earth, that there was not one more wicked than she. He told here where she got the poison, and how she put it in a cup of coffee; said he 'You got that poison from so and so, and I drank it, but you could not kill me.' When it entered his stomach he went to the door and threw it off. he spoke to her in that council in a very severe manner, and she never said one word in reply. I have witnesses of this scene all around, who can testify that I am now telling the truth. Twice she undertook to kill him."
If she was literally the most wicked women on earth at the time, is it that hard to believe that she was a sociopath?
There were a lot of hard feelings on both sides. No love lost. The rumor mill was circulating between them both. No phones back then or telephones. Just rumor mongers. Both were human beings with imperfections. But I don't think that emma was a sociopath unless she knew about it all being a fraud, if it was a fraud.
I intend to lay a foundation that will revolutionize the whole world.

What rumors? In this story, there are no rumors. Brother Brigham is conveying --- first hand --- a statement made by Smith, while Emma was in the room.
Either (1) Emma poisoned Smith; (2) Brigham is lying, or (3) Smith is lying.
Personally none of the three alternatives would surprise me. Why don't you tell me which you think is most likely.
