Is this not how it goes:
Joseph Smith is not the current prophet.
The current prophet says we don't know where the land is that was described in the Book of Mormon.
Therefore we can ignore what Joseph Smith said and take comfort in ignorance.
Of note: The current prophet also, apparently, doesn't know where it isn't, and so cannot resolve the Heartlander vs. LGT dispute by saying that one or the other is wrong.
