Nothing binds like family, and in your case, your employment is a granny knot.
Funny how quickly defenders scream persecution when asked about their ties to Mormonism, yet it is OK to persecute critics of LDS church like Grant Palmer and Simon Southernton. Cute.

What I did see, though, was a classic specimen of a circumstantial ad hominem argument -- the kind of thing that shows up regularly in handbooks of practical logical fallacies.

Daniel, would your current employer fire you if you defected from the Mormon church?

Yes. But that doesn't mean that I'm a believing member of the Church and a visible defender of its claims solely or largely because of concern about my employment. It doesn't, in fact, demonstrate that that's any part of my motivation at all.
Presumably the FBI would arrest you if you sought to acquire a nuclear device and destroy the town next door. But, also presumably, the threat of arrest by the FBI isn't the only thing standing between you and your causing a thermonuclear holocaust in Nether Dogpatch.

This would be true for all BYU professors, so they won't lead their students astray. Dr. Peterson is a fully committed Mormon who has already found peace with all the arguments presented against Mormonism.
There is sort of an analog with civilian employees at the Pentagon. If they lose their security clearance they get canned. Can't have them divulging the location of the executive restrooms to the Ayatolah.

Hello Mr. Peterwhatever,
Soooo...
Your primary value to the Mormon church is Middle Eastern Studies, or Apologetics?
