Shulem's avatar has everything to do with Mormonism. Care to tell her what your avatar represents, Shulem?

I thought you'd never ask.

Well, my avatar is a cutaway from part of the Egyptian funerary papyrus published in the LDS version of the Book of Abraham, Facsimile No. 3, Fig. 5. The figure in my Avatar is an Egyptian personage by the name of Hor. Joseph Smith incorrectly identified this person as a waiter and claimed that the name "Shulem" is written in the characters above his hand.

Needless to say, Joseph Smith's declaration is completely false and Mormon scripture has tainted the good name of the Egyptian gods. The Mormons have no shame and refuse to apologize or make amends. The Mormons are a disgusting people and bear no shame for their dirty deeds.

But the way to deal with such a character is to lock them up and let them rot like Warren Jeffs. If you kill them then you can't expose them--you just elevate them to victimhood and sainthood.

I think the general idea is that what goes around comes around. I am not suggesting the mob had the legal or moral right to kill him, only that his poor behavior had a great deal with how things went down.

I am not sure what you mean. I assume you recognize his avatar picture is part of the Book of Abraham which is considered Mormon scripture, so how is does it not have at least something to do with Mormonism?

I see it as a lot like the experience of the Rajneeshis in Oregon. A community reaction to the sudden in-migration of a radically different social group, determined to express its differences. Conflict follows. But while Osho was deported, Smith was murdered. A (rather sneaky) rehabilitation of Osho has happened but not (yet) of the success of the whitewashing of Smith.

Certainly there are some factors in which Joseph was not at fault for what happened to him.

I'm sure there were.

Fine. I hope you find something you like better, soon. I'll let Shulem know you're in the market for a better avatar.

Did I say I was 'in the market" for one? I'm not. If I stumble over one in my peregrinations around the net, maybe, but someone will have to 'sell' me one, because I'm not in the 'market' to 'buy.'

It's all in the perception, right? After all, your objection to my avatar is that YOU perceive it in a certain way. So...I perceive yours in a way that you possibly do not intend.

That is, not 'Mormonism,' but rather a straw target for you to shoot at.

Hey.

It's MY perception, and if it is your perceptions about what I post (or put as my avatar) that counts, then it is my perception about what you write...or post as your avatar...that counts.

Unless of course you are fond of double standards?

In no way was he at fault for his own murder.

Just as the Fanchers were in NO way at fault for theirs, no matter what their killers may have thought or intended. Just as the people of Haun's Mill were in no way at fault for theirs...you know, ten year old Sardius Smith was NOT at fault for his own death, when a man named "Glaze' shot him in the head saying 'nits make lice...." Glaze's reason for killing the child did not in any way lessen his own guilt, or increase that of Sardius, OR the other men at Haun's Mill.

And it doesn't matter what you think of Joseph Smith, or any OTHER leader of any other group you may not like or approve of; their behavior in no way justifies their murder at another's hand. There is no legal, moral or ethical way where 'look what you made me do! flies.

I don't care who does what to whom.

When did Themis express an objection to your avatar?

And given that Themis does not have an avatar, I am really not following your discussion here, what double standards are you referring to? When you talk about you perceiving Themis' avatar, are you actually referring to your perception of Shulem's avatar?
