The fact that Sledge claims he has been a moderator at tons of places and still is arguing that you are wrong, should be an immediate disqualifier.

Sledge should absolutely not be a mod, nothing personal Sledge but there's just too many red flags IMHO.

How many times have you been phoned up by some nameless bureaucrat in the Church, and told that you needed to go interrogate some poor sap? And then you follow through and do it? It just doesn't get any more disquieting that this.

So, yeah: welcome to Creep City. And as I recall, Midgley was asked to do the SCMC's bidding as well at some point. I'm reminded of the scene early in Apocalypse Now where Willard is told that he's going to need to "terminate the Colonel with extreme prejudice." And now we have a TBM friend of Peterson's, who defines people who post here as "Anti-Mormon bigots," who would like access to the moderator level of our forum, "just for 90 days!" He is currently asserting IP logs do not exist. Coincidentally, moderators here apparently have access to the IP addresses of posters.

I really hope Shades decides against allowing Creep City to infiltrate our forum.

If that happens I’ll delete my profile and leave the board. It’s not a weird threat, by the way. I see clearly what Sledge is about, and I’m not down with it.

Way back when I intuited, I think it was on this thread, that this would be where the majority crowd would end up at. Not a big surprise.

We will end up with three moderators that have an implicit negative bias towards either the LDS church and/or its members. Nothing can go wrong there.

I think faithful members should use a certain amount of care when posting here, if they want to be received well. Just as ex-Mormons do when posting at Sic et Non. Respect goes a long way. I got banned from Dan's blog because I didn't show any deference to Dan. It shouldn't be surprising that those who don't show respect to ex-Mormons here won't be selected to be mods.

I hesitate and take no pleasure in recalling this little story but I will because it seems fitting at the moment. Back when the old board was breaking down I somehow managed to log on and gain total access of the board and assume ownership. I kid you not. I do believe there were a couple of other posters that accidently slipped in during that fragile time when the board was unsecure and left wide open to being hijacked. Jersey Girl knows the story and can vouch for me.

I contacted Shades and told him to get his ass there so I could leave the controls because I was worried about Smoky getting in and doing God knows what to the board. Anyway, I guarded the controls like a good boy and helped Shades out while Gad came in to give him a hand.

I'm only telling this story because it worries me that someone like Sledge could get in and do some real damage if that is his intent. Other than this, I was never going to tell this little story but feel I should at this time because I suspect this board is a target by hackers and those who want to take it down.

I just saw this account. I vouch for the account. You contacted me and wanted to know what you were looking at. I think you did that because we trust each other. I told you that you were on the Mod or Admin control panel. I know what the mod panel looks like. You never once sounded like a snoop about it, your sole interest was protecting the board. I think that happened because the board was becoming corrupted.

Yes his account is absolutely true. I know good and well what the mod control panel looks like which is exactly why I mentioned the need to trust folks with in real life of the posters here.

You probably meant your last sentence to be ironic. However, I think it's optimistic, but just a little.

I think that Shades' bias is fairly well known, and yet he manages, to the satisfaction of most board members, to put it aside when in his mod role. The three members who seem likely to become mods will also be expected to put aside whatever biases they have - to become clones of Shades when functioning as mods.

I honestly don't see a problem there.

There may be issues at first, in learning mode, but anyone who cannot effectively overcome bias will not last in the role - Shades will make sure of that.

As far as I can tell, only one pro-LDS member has volunteered, and I believe that he has very effectively disqualified himself, and not simply by being pro-LDS. You might even agree?

Should Shades pressgang some pro-LDS members to create some sort of balance? Or, what do you suggest. Are you going to volunteer?
