Origins of the Book of Mormon

Although I haven't studied the Israelite connections with the Book of Mormon, I do have to comment on something two of these items: Nahom and the metallurgy recently located exactly where Lehi traveled in the Old World. Exciting stuff for believers.
But here's what cracks me up about it: both Nahom and metallurgy are found in the Bible. Obviously the Book of Mormon borrows heavily from the Bible (yes, I know, understatement of the century). So something clearly demonstrated in the Bible somehow become evidence for the Book of Mormon?
Talk about not seeing the forest for the trees.
Nahom (or Nahum, depending on the version) is a name in the Bible. The Bible was written by people who lived in ancient Israel, so we can assume that name Nahom, or something similar, is going to be found in ancient Israel. Metallurgy was a well demonstrated skill in the Bible, so anyone who was writing a book about Biblical people would include it.
And this is the best evidence they have.

We hate to seem like we don’t trust every nut with a story, but there’s evidence we can point to, and dance while shouting taunting phrases.

I thought we belonged to the Secret Ancient Society of Mahan Against Mormonism.
Ooops.

1) By this same argument isn't the Koran true then?
2) Why are you guys finding counter explanations and not The Brethren? I would like to know (not that I expect you have the answer) why President Hinkley won't just settle it, take some stand. As I mentioned a few days ago - Joseph Smith was very clear (in my opinion) about where the Book of Mormon took place. How did the general membership come to believe the Book of Mormon took place elsewhere without any higher authority saying so?
Koran true in what sense? That Muhammed wrote it? I don't think he claimed to have plates that he translated it.
Joseph Smith may have had his own idea where the Book of Mormon lands were. But he had more important things to do than worry the Lord with questions of archeology. You look at the list of things he accomplished in his 40 some years, and he didn't have much time for something that wasn't really that important in the long run.
Likewise, the Brethren have a job to do that doesn't include satisfying idle curiosities. We talk about it because it is fun, but whether or not the Book of Mormon can be verified by archeology or any other -ology is simply not important. Those who are being gathered out of the world, the Shepherd's flock, recognize His voice, and are told by the Spirit that the Book of Mormon is true. That is what is important.
It is nothing more than amusement.

I hope it's the United Orthodox Mosque of Catholic Atheists. I love those guys. :)

But they have a significantly lower incidence of baby eating, which is kind of important to me.

I should hope so, he wrote it!

Isn't it interesting that the angel with a flaming sword didn't come down to stop the attack at Crooked River or stop the destruction of the Expositor or even to protect Joseph from the mob at Carthage. Nope, the Lord saved his really big guns for the important stuff.
