Re: Boring dead drama is boring and dead
It occurs to me that it's almost impossible for a critic to attack first on the MDD board. Abusive behavior on MDD will get a critic banned immediately (from what I've seen, it doesn't even take that much to get a critic banned). So Pahoran's insistence that he is merely pointing out bad behavior doesn't make sense. If critics were flocking to MDD to hurl personal insults and invective at Pahoran and the other defenders of the faith, he might be the tiniest bit justified in returning the aggression, blow for blow. But what is really happening is that Pahoran and his friends have discarded the Marquess of Queensbury rules and are attacking critics with knives and clubs; meanwhile any critic stupid enough to post at MDD is essentially tied to a post and gagged, unable to mount any kind of defense.
That's called bullying, not "pointing out bad behavior." And bullying is hate, full stop.

Blixa was banned having never made a single public post on the forum, having only sent some PMs to other posters identifying herself, to try and get in touch with friends there.
Darth J was banned while he wasn't even posting at MDDB.
I was put into moderator queue sometime in the fall quarter of last year while I wasn't even posting on the forums and then banned in May of this year within an hour of submitting a polite ticket asking the moderators to please not let another poster display my private correspondence in his signature, in accordance with the rules of the forum.
I have no idea what Andrew Cook (Mortal Man) has been banned for, but I am just amazed. What serious Mormonism discussion forum wouldn't want published Mormon studies scholars posting there?
The "moderation" on that forum is a joke. It is hands-down the worst place on the Internet to discuss Mormonism, and I include RFM, CARM, and the Walter Martin forum in that estimation. I would include the Utah's Lighthouse Message Board in that estimation if it were still around. It is worse than all of those. The practices of the administrators even border on creepy and stalkerish.
The sooner that reasonable posters stop giving them the time of day---the sooner that critical posters stop rushing back into their arms every time the administrators get bored and unban a bunch of people---the sooner that place will die the death of a thousand low-quality, banal, bottom-feeding echos.

Shulem typically does it in the Telestial Forum, though.
That would explain it. I never post or read in the Telestial Forum.

Isn't that pretty much the state it's in already? The only items of interest seem to be those occasions when posters descend below banality into stupidity and hatred.

Well it's a good strategy if you attack them first to try and get a response and then get them banned. MDD hasn't been a respectable forum for years now. It is really becoming a joke.

Whether or not believers are "afraid" of posting here, it speaks to their character that they prefer to participate in a place with such slanted rules. I wouldn't post on a place like that, no matter the subject.

Could be. I don't tune into that place often enough to know.

Nor do I but the last time I looked it was pretty much as you described.

For most people I don't think where they choose to post is a character issue. I think most people who are not comfortable with being able to adequately defend their position prefer to post in an environment in which they will not be attacked.

I agree, but the situation here is different. It's a character issue when you prefer to post in an environment where you will not be attacked but those who disagree with you will.
