Just because they are called “Egyptologists,” it does not automatically follow that they must be right and Joseph Smith wrong.
Your knee jerk reaction is irrelevant. No one ever claims this. What we have is actual evidence of how and why hieroglyphs are translated the way they are, and the evidence for how not to translate them into meaningless meanings. No one knows everything in anything, but that is irrelevant to knowing something with something. The Egyptologists do know what hieroglyphs mean and what some of the ancient Egyptians thought because we have their evidence which exists and it can and has been translated. You appear to me to be completely unaware of this. A little research on your part would go a long way.

To assume that Egyptologists have discovered and figured out everything that there is to be known about ancient Egypt is height of arrogance.
I see nowhere where Shulem assumes this however. No one has to have everything figured out in order to have some things figured out. You honestly don't grasp that simple point? We don't have to know everything about a subject in order to draw out the probabilities of whether it is even in the ball park or not. You certainly don't know everything there is about Mormonism yet that doesn't stop you from making all sorts of pronouncements of supposed knowledge about it. If you had to learn everything FIRST, you wouldn't be able to say anything for the next several decades. So this strawman you keep throwing at Shulem is ineffective and silly.

True to his 19th-century American point of view, Joseph identified the only "black" person in the drawing as a slave. However, this figure is undoubtedly Anubis, guide of the dead, who is there to support the deceased. He has helped the deceased complete his journey, and assisted him in the use of the spells that were contained in his funeral book. Reuben Hedlock's rendering is not very good, perhaps because of damage to the original papyrus fragment from which he took the drawing, but Anubis is always black, and always has a jackal's head — in fact, you can still make out the pointed dog ear on the top of his head. The words above Anubis read: "Recitation by Anubis, who makes protection(?), foremost of the embalming booth,…"

You can shout all you want. What I said in my previous post still applies.
In other words you lack the ability to actually engage in a meaningful discussion and discuss what we actually have as evidence in any sort of actual way that helps in understanding. Nothing you say applies because the evidence already has shown us the direction we can look, and you have shown us the direction you absolutely will never look. Nothing you say is relevant until you engage in discussion with Shulem and drop the fake testimony thing you cling to like a baby does its blankie and binkie for security......

I do.
No one with any actual knowledge I should have said. What you say because you refuse to engage in honest and realistic discussion of the evidence is irrelevant in the overall understanding. You appear to me to be abjectly terrified of seeing what the reality is. Besides, you were accusing others of doing this, and that is an entirely false accusation. You are getting really good at building strawmen and takin em out however......

I believe that what the Egyptologists have discovered is not sufficient to undo the work of Joseph Smith.
Your problem is you start with the assumption that Joseph Smith was false, therefore any discrepancies between him and the Egyptologists must be his fault. You are not willing to countenance the alternative proposition, which is not a logical or necessary assumption.
You give your ignorance away here. Shulem used to be THE PREMIERE ******DEFENDER****** of Joseph Smith's Book of Abraham. Back in the good ole days, he was taking on the Egyptologists themselves. I was as well. Your assumption is that we were never on the side of defending Joseph Smith and ultimately because of the evidence saw that it is futile to defend his wrong translations. We have already been on the side of Joseph Smith. Apparently you fail to know this. But you do now, so it's time you engage the evidence. No more excuses for you like this silliness we all are reading. Pony up, show us specifically HOW Joseph Smith got it right with the Book of Abraham papyri. We used to think he did, but we don't now.

Why do I care what you believe? You need to present evidence and discuss the significance of it, and things like that. Mere pronouncements mean nothing to me. Don't tell me Joseph Smith got it right, show me with the actual conforming evidence of the Egyptian which Joseph Smith most certainly DID claim to know and understand. He is on trial here, and you as his lawyer are failing and flailing.
