I like to think of Gemli as a Tityus/Prometheus figure. With every blogpost his liver gets torn out of him by the beaks of Daniel and Louis, only for it to regenerate in time for the next cycle.

I think it's more like, With every blogpost he gets Ni'd by the Knights Who Say, "Ni!"

I had to look that one up. I suppose it's no coincidence that in their Wiki entry, there is a section titled Contemporary Scholarship, in which the Knights are described as:

...an example of intentional disregard for historical accuracy....

In his Sisyphean task to get gemli banned from Mr. Peterson’s vanity blog, That Little crap spins, once again, in circles and boxes, once again, his own ears in an attempt to denigrate the indefatigable and comely gemli:

I notice that gemli has not noticed a single thing in this blog about which to opine by the now retired Professor Peterson. This is to be expected, since gemli lives in an a self-imposed ignorance to the actual faith of Latter-day Saints, and all other Christians, Muslims and Jews. It is clear that poor dogmatic gemli, slightly more than other critics who post on sic et non, but also have their own venue in which, I am told, they stink up the place with the kind of rubbish I once experienced on the very last item that Gina Colvin posted on her truly disgusting Kiwi Mormon blog, soon after I had met and immediately became friends with Dr. Nathan McCluskey, who is Gina's husband. The demonic ideocracy did not realize that Colvin is not her husband's surname.

One must keep in mind that Gina Colvin could have--and should have--put a stop to the rubbish that was posted by those who immediately started posting absurd comments about me on her blog by those from a certain sewer.

I don’t know who or what the “demonic ideocracy” is, but, once again, That Little crap is obsessively thinking about Gina Colvin, her husband, the wrong that he feels he suffered in her blog’s comments section, and is wrongly assuming he is the victim here. That Little crap travels across the world to literally confront a stranger, insert himself in between their marriage, and attack her relentlessly and he sees himself as the victim. Un-damned-believable.

This is hugely ironic. Colvin has posted before that she has no interest in communicating with Midgley due to his attacks on people, as well as his insistence that her country's history should be told by 'old white guys from Utah.' She doesn't think much of him, and I'm sure the posts on her site warning her of his impending nonsense were appreciated. She even posted about the encounter her husband had with 'the guy who has attacked [her] online before'.

in my opinion, she is right to just ignore Midgley. His attempts to rewrite New Zealand history in the Mormon vein are clearly beneath her notice, and his personal attacks on her are just an embarrassment. Why Peterson lets this continue is beyond me. Midgley makes him look like a two-bit hack.

I skimmed a few of the pieces linked in this particular post and notice there's not much there. If, on the other hand, something interesting enough to capture the attention of non-Mormon folks, and perhaps professionals and scholars, got published, we might find him taking occasion to comment.

How you went from wishing gemli's attention was more focused on Mormon things to "Gina Colvin posted something disgusting and I'm mad she let people comment on her blog post" is, I mean, to put it mildly, an interesting turn.

Lol. Not to mention Midgley's (extremely typical) rewrite of history. His obnoxious posts on Colvin's blog happened before he met her husband, but in his deluded mind:

People might claim to have bought salami at the local deli, or to have an ingrown toenail. Few would care, much less question the nature of such claims. But when you claim that you're going to live forever and then you provide details about the rules for achieving such a gift and what eternal life is going to be like, you've made unfalsifiable claims that are pointless because they cannot be distinguished from nonsense.

As Sam Harris says, "If you mutter some words over your cornflakes and claim that they turn into the body of Elvis, you're nuts. If you do the same thing over a cracker and say they turn into the body of Jesus, you're just a Catholic." Both claims are equally nonsensical because they're equally unfalsifiable.

I can imagine TLS being both defensive of his friend when gemli makes him look foolish and angsty when gemli reminds TLS that all his culty handshakes are nothing more than a bizarre larp pretending God cares about which side of one’s head the string goes.

Concerning lying: a big admission of lying embedded above.

Here is the order of events that Midgley tries to pawn off on everybody. (a lie)

GC has a blog. Midgley happened upon the blog, extending a good-faith offer to meet her during his visit to NZ. disgusting people ambushed him in the comment section, interrupting his generous offer.

Now he admits:

GC has a blog that is truly disgusting (irrespective of the 'very last item').

That fits in with the narrative that he's always had within his own mind:

GC has a truly disgusting blog. Midgley trolled the blog looking for a confrontation; in this case, laying out a threat to stalk, which she deserves, for pretending to be LDS and then leaving. The threat generated the expected backlash. More lurkers turned up than expected to chastise Midgley.

It's really odd, the guy essentially got his way from the beginning. He leveled a threat intended to intimidate; he succeeded online (given that GC hasn't posted since). He successfully sailed around the world and hunted GC down and proceeded with in-person confrontation and intimidation. The good people of NZ, looking to resolve peacefully, were too kind, enabling him to pull off a campaign of bullying. (I know exactly how the mind of a bully works, as I dealt with these situations with my kid at school. If the bully is somehow prevented from confronting the target, the bully relays his messages through the target's friends or family). Ever since, he's been beating his chest with victory, making jabs at GC with comments about his friendship with her husband, feeling sorry for the husband and so on.

In all of this, he has a lot to celebrate. The only thing that didn't go right for him is that more people were lurking at GC's blog than he anticipated, and gave him a hard time online for his transparent intimidation tactics.
