How about the "straw man argument" which pops up every so often....

Yes, Don Imus said something offensive; However, it's nothing compaired to some of the horrible things that are said all the time on that filthy, Sewer Obsession board or at RFM by rabid antis and ex-mos.

There are a number of witness accounts of this event, but they all disagree on certain details. This means that we cannot conclude that any of them are accurate. One quotes 'Dan Imus', which may be referring to a different person entirely. It's probable that this 'Dan Imus' is the person who actually made the statement, and that other witnesses simply confused this with Don Imus when relating the event.
