He's the media relations director forThe Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Here's his blog:

http://newsweek.washingtonpost.com/onfa ... _otterson/

For those that were bored...WAKE UP! The church is making moves towards becoming a bit more open and transparent. Any movement that direction is a good thing. Right?

Apparently some here found the news conference so tedious to listen to you apparently missed some interesting information that was given/announced. You may want to go back and listen to the whole thing.

Why the juvenile comments posted on this thread? You want the church to move towards becoming more open and honest. They start to move that direction and what happens? Comments about fat ladies and such. Interesting.

by the way, if I remember correctly Michael Otterson is somehow related to John Dehlin of Mormon Matters fame. Brother in law or something like that.

I think the news conferences, and there will be more of them, are a move in the right direction.

Good gawd man! WTF are you saying? Wake yourself up man!

The morons CANNOT become open and honest. If they did the membership might start sprouting brains and then the tithing would plummet.

Reeeaahhiilly? Be a good virtual home teacher and tell us which parts were useful.

Here is what I found useful:

"The Book of Mormon is the history of the people on the American Continent"
"The best way to know the church is to get to know the people"
"Mormons are great hand shakers" (tell me about it, dude!)
"There is unquestionably very rapid growth in the church"
"The net growth is really enormous . . extremely substantial"
"For the church it's not about the numbers"
"Go to a seminary class where 14 year olds learn about the sermon on the mount"
"Christ will have two jewel capitals he will rule from, the first in Jerusalem the second 'somewhere in the center of the United States'"

Fat is fat. Sorry for pointing that out. Actually the correct medical term for her is OBESE. But hey, I will cut them some slack. Perhaps they paid for a study and found that fat(large? overweight? OBESE?) single women(and single fat(large? overweight? OBESE?) mothers) are more likely to join TSCC.

That is your opinion, however, my opinion of your opinion is that truly is some mental gymnastics.

Otterson was out of line to bawl about the reporter saying the Mormons are most similar to the Moonies.

Does he not even know the history of the Moonies?
On Easter morning, April 17, 1935, when he was 16 (in Korean age reckoning), Moon says he had a vision or revelation of Jesus while praying atop a small mountain. He says that Jesus implored him to complete his mission of saving all of humankind.

The Moonies is a derogatory term for members of Sun Myung Moon's Unification Movement. Members prefer the terms Unificationist or Unification Church member.

For the next dozen years Unificationists did not publicly object to the use of the word and even joked about it, referred to themselves as "proud Moonies" on buttons and mugs, and called each other "Moonies".

The reporter could have said Mormons are very similar to Muslims also.

Hmmmm, Mormons, Moonies, Muslims....

I'd rather watch an overweight woman speak than read the rantings of a juvenile prick. Is there an ignore function on this board?

I second that. Let's wait till all those Polygamy Porters start to take effect and then see if he still exhibits the same level of appearancism.

Moonies! Ha!

OMG!!!! OMFG!!! OMHHFG!!!

The chubby female host says the Book of Mormon "is the HISTORY OF THE PEOPLE ON THE AMERICAN CONTINENT"

OK, who would like to count the ridiculous number of times these two fools say "church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints"?

A Freudian slip by the English chap about visiting the local chapel to get to know the members:
"If you want to get a feeling for our faith, go to a Sunday meeting. One thing you will notice right away is that we are great at shaking hands."

It the breaks to a commercial for the International House of Handshakes.

Then they skip around on the whole Jackson County issue.

in my opinion, this supposed broadcast was a PR FLOP.

What do you all think?

Dude, you photothoshopped this picture, she wasn't this chubby whan I watched the original!

I do not know anything about Scientology. Why do you think that it is similar to what they would do?

As a minion of Hell it is my duty to warn you that continuing to rely on your feelings will lead you back into the camp of the False Lord and his feebleminded adherents.
