(Mildly) off-topic: for the web guys here...

It is sad to read stories of people who have lost their faith and who are now so concerned about telling other Mormons that they are wrong that they spend many hours describing in detail all their pretended "discoveries" about the Mormon Church.

I would love to see someone do a survey of active LDS people to find out whether they already know some of this stuff. I would bet you would find many who do not. And, it is the case that there are people who are shocked enough when they learn it, that they do leave. This suggests to me that they did not pretend to discover anything. They discovered it alright, and then they discovered the exit door. Two profound discoveries that are in no way "pretended."

I want to create some quizzes (e.g., "Testing Your Knowledge about Joseph Smith," etc.) for a website I'm working on.

What's the best way to go about doing this? I just need pointers as to good third-party software, or relevant HTML/Flash tutorials, and general recommendations as to how you'd do it. Not a full-fledged This-Is-How-You-Do-It response. Just point me in the right direction and I think I can figure it out.

Best.

I think that the site is good. I can see what he is trying to do with it. Instead of recovery from Mormonism he brought an apologist spin to it all by claiming that exmos can also recover to Mormonism. Lets face it, sites like RFM which spew out hatred may not be good for certain individuals. If such people would see the error of their ways, perhaps they can also experience recovery to Mormonism.

It is a brillant idea on Allen's part.

Good? There's virtually nothing there. No ex-mo is going to find this site and think, "Oh, well, that solves my problems." Especially when the site contains incorrect information (e.g., that Joseph Smith only began to practice "plural marriage" in 1839), while ex-mos know that this is not true--and FAIR knows it, too. See the FAIRwiki.

It's a mere pseudo site meant to usurp RfM's hit ratio.

The brilliant idea on Allen's part is to take up as much bandwidth as possible on the web that points to non-anti-Mormon sites, regardless of their content.

RtM is full of recycled material (some of it plainly false) that couldn't conceivably help an ex-Mormon recover to Mormonism.

But, is that the site's purpose?

I hardly think so.

In what sense are the canned apologetic answers at RtM capable of delivering on the site's promise:
"Recovery to Mormonism... or perhaps recovery from recovery from Mormonism or recovery from anti or ex-Mormonism, or simply recovery from problems and frustrations...this site is for you!"

The only folks likely to be impressed are non-Googling ex-members with no access to the Internet. But, that's obviously not the purported target group.

At any rate, best.

The site is just beginning. I do have this feeling that such sites are for the future and certainly a site with that name is quite unique. When articles are posted from apologetic points of view (if that happens) it will be quite a feather in his cap.

His play on words was fantastic.

You note his play on words. The name is not "quite unique." His metatags are meant to emulate RfM. That's the entire point. I predict that this site (content-wise) will stay virtually the same as it is now. Articles are posted all the time from apologetic points of view on other sites. I doubt this site will become a focus of LDS apologetics. The point was to get RtM in the search rankings when someone types in "Recovery from Mormonism." It's currently number 10 on my Google search. That was the entire and only point.

I agree with you, CK. Wyatt is a snake and a degenerate with poor morals. I don't really know what he hopes to accomplish with all of these pointless little "jokes" he engages in, but I do hope he realizes the tenuous ethical position he's in. I hope, further, that it one day dawns on him that, as a relatively high-profile FAIR-ite, that his unbelievably immature behavior reflects badly on Mopologetics as a whole.

I have seen a few of these sites, and from what I can tell they are little more than empty storefronts designed to do exactly what CKS says. I actually wrote the site administrator to suggest they post the testimonies of reconverted ex-Mormons. I will be waiting to see whether he actually does something with that, because I think it is quite a good idea. If they are serious about reconverting people, I have no problem with that, but the idea of flooding the internet with pointless, distracting material is practically an admission that they have little in the way of real ideas or solutions.
