I have to agree with everyone about RfM's outdated format, and the fact that almost all posts will be deleted after 10 days or so. Must be very frustrating to see good discussions disappear after a week and a half.

Edit: I actually have posted at RfM a couple times....once I posted a link to the Vogel/Uncle Dale Spaulding thread on MDB and I think it was deleted fairly quickly. But I don't particularly like their way of doing things, reminds me a bit of MAD's moderation style.

Which gives you a heads up James Bond that you do not need to silence peoples voices, regardless of what point of view comes from. Hell, the best thread was so far Paul Ray's, I couldn't believe the guy, who riled him up so good to bring his absolute best to surface?
Heavyhandedness of RFM & MADD chases good people away.
Let's keep all voices & posts participating.....

Solomarineris,

I've posted on MAD only once and don't really care to post again.

I rarely post on RfM anymore, and it's not because of any particular moderation problems or the outdated board--it's just that I feel I've finished my course there. It was a great place for me for a long time and I appreciate RfM for what it is. Every now and then, I drop in on RfM to check up with the many friends I made there. I still care about them and keep in contact with several of them off board.

That said, I do wish RfM posts were kept and not deleted after ten days.

I wish RfM and it's posting family well.

For a couple years RFM served a big purpose for me. Helped me find kindred souls in the same boat as I. It helped me learn my way out of the Mo-fog, but lately either that board or I have changed and it's probably the latter. It doesn't seem to foster the indepth history and church origin discussions it did years ago. Those were what attracted me and helped me so much. Lately all the pop-up adds for atheism are getting very old.

I also found that two things were off limits and can get you deleted on RFM-defending Mormonism and criticizing Steve Benson. No speaking ill of the board's annointed!

Wow! Hot avatar, Henry Jacobs! Nice to see you here, too.

I think the things you mentioned never bothered me on RfM because I ignored them. I like Steve and it was very interesting reading many of his essays about his family, but I never followed all his posts avidly. And the atheist debates never drew me in because I could care less: the issue of actual belief in God is a non-issue for me and always has been. It always struck me that these donnybrooks were started by the believers, but why a bunch of unbelievers felt it necessary to keep those threads going, is beyond me.

I do have to say that I recently started reading the threads about The Golden Compass hysteria---I'm really amazed at the vitriol that has been stirred up about that film and the fascinating series of books from which it is taken. Such insanity!! Such distortion!! Such hoo ha!! I've seen blurbs on Meridian (my guilty pleasure) about the need to organize against this ungodly horror, but had not guessed that it was so general to all conservative, right wing, xtian organizations that it would show up on RfM courtesy of the resident xtain espouser par excelleance, beaglie. Either that or I thought beaglie was more sane...

I find RfM to be a huge community of people with many, many posts that fall to the bottom unnoticed due to the way threads get 'bumped' with responses. I don't have anything against the board personally but I prefer the smaller communities and also less personal insults. I'm not into that even when I feel wounded.

I have never posted on Madb and don't plan to.
Insert ironic quote from fellow board member here.

I was banned from MAD - 1 year ago today.

As for RfM - I don't post there, but read there occasionally. I hate how the board is set up.

I hardly ever post on RfM, and it's usually when I write a parody that I think folks over there might enjoy. I posted there a lot when I was in my "angry exie" stage (thanks for that description, Juliann), but I'm not angry anymore, and I feel like I got what I needed from RfM.

I was banned from MAD in February (for what reason I don't really know). I went back there a few months ago, and they let me stay. I suspect that I'll be banned again shortly. After all, I was threatened with banning for merely making a benign joke.

I used to post regularly on Rfm because that's all I knew. But it suited me well for the time and has now run it's course for me. I feel I'm kind of past that phase in my "de-conversion". This board does well for me now. I tried to post once or twice on MAD but after I got a few responses, I had flashbacks of being in Priesthood Meeting with all the guilt trip type lectures. "You just need to have faith! What's wrong with you."

Probably won't post again over there.

Yea, I do remember you posting regulary on RFM. I liked your posts, in fact I thought you were grupie/admin favored there, and you did disappear like countless others. I do find that sad in a way because people like you, Runtu, TLC, Bachman added a spicy flavor.
Anyway, the same goes for MADD board, the guys who quit poting there made MADD worthwile to read. Likes of Julian, Phoran, DP are the most interesting to rile up in a measured way so they won't kick you out.
