that's because the Mormon church doesn't think (except in business) but spins - no thinking in explaining issues with Book of Abraham or Book of Mormon. The biggest move is maybe lets change one word every ten years when public pressure or thought gets intense.

On a more serious note, I do not consider it to be lying when one truly believes something even if that belief is mistaken.

There really should be a word for that. Maybe we should reuse the verb "to sell" since you're trying to sell someone on the lie you also believe (or have been sold).
God belief is for people who don't want to live life on the universe's terms.
