Maybe the FARMS people are tolerated for the novelty and illustrativeness of their beliefs. I imagine a serious academician from New England might introduce a FARMS-act as a "figure" in his presentation study: "Why intelligent Mormons continue to defend weird things".

That's not entirely true, Ray. I know a little bit about Scratch. :) He does drive a hard bargain though on information swaps.

Because if Scratch is lying, or avoiding his real motives for attacking every and anything Mormon, then he's a complete SHAM. If, for example, he is really gay, but posing as a heterosexual, married and all that, but believes in the Church, and is SO cautious to hide his real identity - he could be anything! He knows, for example, that IF he is gay, none of his arguments would be taken seriously, and would be immediately dismissed by Mormons. But he wants credibility! And he can't do that by telling who he really is!
So let Scratch declare who he really is. His obsession with Mike Quinn, and gay issues, is one deadset give-away.

It means that I will admit Scratch is secretive, but I do know a few things about him. I know more about scratch than I do rcrocket or even many of the online posters i've argued with or alongside with for years. I could know more about those who reveal their "real names", but I have absolutely 0 interest in it. I have an interest in:
1) previous aliases, mostly on boards i've been to (and gossip surrounding this)
2) real world identity to the extent that it's relevant to the discussions, for instance, if someone has published a slew of papers on the spaulding theory, and the topic is Mormonism, then it's helpful to make those connections.
Oh, that's not to say I know a lot about scratch, but that i know relatively little about posters who offer their real names, because i honestly have no interest.
