90% off topic - my grandfather had a PR position with the church and lived in Eagles Gate. I came to visit once and my grandmother forced me to wear one of her bathing suits and swim laps with her in the basement pool. Being 20, wearing an 80 year old's swimsuit. Let's talk about humbling experiences.

This is just a quick Google search.

Well. How humble. Is that the entire floor? And is this right next to the COB? Anyone want to venture a guess at how much an entire-floor-penthouse in downtown SLC might cost?

Anyway. It seems like a smart way to conduct business to live right next to your work.

We've already done that on another thread before you got here. $1.5 million, give or take.

The current taxable valuation on the entire property (land and improvements of the Eagle Gate Apartments building) is just short of $9 million, and taxes for the past year were over $60,000.

Notice my comment (first comment on this thread). Gotta love that fascist appeal to the virtue of rural folks, particularly those who live at high altitudes.

(Didn't Bill Murray in Groundhog Day say that he wishes we'd all live in the mountains at high altitudes? That movie makes sense now...it's a fascist propoganda film!)

My understanding is that the entire top floor of the apartment building is for the pres. of the LDS church. He probably has as much square footage as a 'mountain retreat'.

They should call it what it is - a penthouse.

Yes, that's exactly what it is.

I looked online, and couldn't find any good photos of the eagle gate apartments. When I have time some day, I'll drive by them and snap a photo. If I recall correctly, the entire top floor even looks different than the rest of the building. I've heard it's covered in bullet proof glass.

I miss my Grandpa's cabin up in the mountains in California.

That appears to be seven full floors above ground, including the top one.

Assuming a $9 million valuation on the entire property, a valuation of the top floor at $1.5 million would not be entirely out of line.

That's just the Libbrul Media at it again, using terms that make the church look bad. The prophet is NOT Bob Guccione, fer cryin' out loud. He's never even read Penthouse.

krose's tongue is no doubt firmly planted in cheek.

"Penthouse" is simply descriptive, just as "Park Avenue" apartment is, but both can be considered to have elitist overtones, even if they don't.

"South Temple top floor residence" is probably more palatable to general membership.
