How on Earth does going "out in a hail of gunfire" relate to who had more of a long-term impact on society, or whether the thing he started was a complete waste of time or not? Does a person have to have pissed off several people to the point that an angry mob hunts him down and shoots him before you think he has an impact?

Did Freud go out in a hail of gunfire? How about Einstein? Or Newton? Michelangelo? Or do these guys also not qualify as people who have had a major impact on society? Was their work a complete waste of time? After all, where's the dramatic death?

Do we need to roll the d20 to determine if it succeeded?

Will that work to distract them while our rogue makes a move for their treasure?

I wonder if it's still around somewhere at my parents' house or something. That would roxxor!

I started with World of Greyhawk as well. You can probably download a PDF of that for ~5$ at RPGNow, you know, for old time's sake.

The someone was Tracy Hickman, a TBM. He also co-authored the Dragonlance series of novels. I read them to my kids and began to notice some definite LDS elements. For example, the first novel, Dragons of Autumn Twilight, takes place during a period of great apostasy when there are no "true" clerics left in the land, but only charlatans and sorcerers, since the gods have gone into hiding. Then along comes a couple of plains barbarians (Lamanites/chosen people) with a mission to recover some lost records written on golden disks (instead of plates) which play some vague but critical role in restoring divine power to the world. In the second book they find a pair of ancient eyeglasses that give the power of translation....

BCSpace wrote:Now here arises an interesting question. What should be the alignment of a TBM? My initial thinking has me rejecting Lawful Good in favor of Neutral Good. I shall ponder it some more.

I wouldn't say TBMs are all of a single alignment. William Schryver, for example, is most certainly some kind of chaotic -- how else do you explain his entry onto these boards under a rotating series of sockpuppet and troll identities. Love 'ya, Will!

Depends in part on who our rogue is. Should we use Gadianton, Kishkumen, or Nephi? Nephi gets a +4 modifier for beheadings if the enemy is drunk.

Then let's distract them with food and wine, and send in Nephi. Better keep an eye on him, though. I don't trust his goody-goody attitude.

I'm pretty sure our troll would say we've got the whine part down. ;)

I'd be careful with Nephi too, but I hear he has a 10% chance of breaking his bow every time he uses it. I'd be especially careful with Nephi's charisma score. He's also a skilled ventrilloquist and has been known to cast close range electrical spells. I'd advise avoiding melee combat preferring instead to use ranged attacks. I'd be careful as he will also summon powerful spirits to protect him although fortunately I've only heard of that happening in melee combat involving his elder brothers.

"... rotating series of sockpuppet and troll identities. "

???

You mean besides this one identity I have maintained for almost two years now? I'm confused. Have I been given credit for being someone else -- and missed it? If so, who? I'm really curious now.

D&D Dweeb.

I'll be over shortly to piss on your rug.

As a really good friend of mine said this morning, "Geeks around the world are grieving, Fundamentalist Christian Nut-jobs are celebrating, and I'm dying a little inside."

D&D is an awesome event for me. Two of my favorite things, reading and gaming combined into one (do some research into the creation of the Monk class and it tells you my all-time favorite book series), with the added spice of debate. How could anyone not dig this?
