By the way, perceptions are subjective. Any meaningful definition of "truth" has to entail independence from subjectivity/individual perception. After all, is it "true" that the sun revolves around the earth, if everyone in the world thinks it's "true" that it does?

Also by the way, if it matters (can't see how it does...), I haven't been over at RFM for like, two years. And who could blame me for posting here rather than there, with replies like yours? At least I've gotten a few laughs now!
WTF? I just gave you some fan love, love that pays your frigging bills.

You resigned for the cult, right? Then get on with MAKING MUSIC ALREADY.

Your years at RfM were great, but that well is dry. BONE DRY.

Your music well is filling up again, go and drink from it.

Personally, I'm picky about which truth works for me.

I wish I'd known a lot more about Joseph Smith about 37 years ago, but I'm honest enough with myself to acknowledge that it probably wouldn't have changed much. I had the bit between my teeth and I was running with the bulls at that point in my life. I'd probably have made the same decisions, but at least I wouldn't have been blindly running with the bulls.

I wish I'd known things that were happening in my own family a long time ago. Maybe I could have saved my sisters and others some emotional pain. But I didn't know, and that truth is what hurts right now. I didn't know, so I couldn't fix it. And they suffered because I didn't know. Several lives could have been effected, had I known then what I was told less than a week ago.

I look at my life now... at my Sweet Pickle, at my children, my grandchildren, my mother, my sisters and brother, my neighbors, my friends, and I'm truthful enough to know that while I've hit some bumps in the road, even knowing what I know now, the things I'd change would be minimal. My search for the truth hasn't always netted me what I sought; it has netted me those I love though. And that's important.

There's a intro screen for this board?

(I for one always connect directly to mormondiscussions.com/discuss).

Don't keep us in suspense. What do you know now that you didn't know a week ago?

Bond: Go to http://www.mormondiscussions.com, without the "/discuss," to see the page we're all talking about.

I think truth is important because you need a certain amount (the amount to get something to fire) to move forward. I think that it's important to know about what happened in the late 1830's in Missouri regarding the Mormons and that they pushed the envelope in a frontier - survival of the most fit culture - until you know the real story then one is held back but once you know the basics then you can move forward. One can apply this to other parts of LDS history, come to a basic conclusion, and then be able to move forward.

Tal,
I can hardly guess the reason of your absence from RFM & MDB. However I can confidently say that
you were widely popular in both places. RFM brass treated you like a royalty, they have this cult-worship of their 'Star posters', somehow they (like you) keep disappearing though. It's either you, (who gets tired of tirades) or them, who are control freaks, censor posts dime a dozen.
I know though, people enjoyed your posts 80/20 ratio.

Your music is good, I did enjoy your tales with rock stars larger than life.
Hope you will stick around.

I usually enjoy Tal's posts as well, and think he makes good points. I think people are reacting to the frequent past criticisms he made of this board in general, If I recall correctly. It is irritating for regular denizens of any given board to be visited by someone who makes a point of telling them their board is worthless and stupid, and then comes back with a serious post. I'm willing to overlook that because sometimes this board irritates me, too. Not enough to leave, obviously. ;)

But between the two RFM "stars" - Steve Benson and Tal Bachman - I'll take Tal hands down, no doubt.

Tal Bachman wrote:
The very structure of scientific methodology tacitly concedes that often humans, at some level, don't want the truth. This is why in scientific experiments we control for things like confirmation bias. This is why results must be replicable to be accepted as valid (the desire to make an exciting new discovery can overwhelm our desires for truth). It is why (supposedly) Max Planck once wryly noted even of this most reliable means of discovering truth, that "science progresses one funeral at a time".

So, where do you stand? You kind of imply that you think people don't really want Truth, but then you tacitly express that humans do indeed seek Truth, albeit slowly and not without a certain amount of remorse.

As for me, it's obvioius that there is something, very internal, in our nature, that's compels us despite our self-interest to seek understanding of the natural world. It's as relentless as the urge to procreate, eat, and well, procreate. How else can one explain that through a monumental twist of radioactive fate, our DNA was mutated into something that produced a creature that in relatively short order has allowed us to conquer the nature world and to even allow us to escape this earthly prison. As far as I know, there has never been any lifeform to achieve what we have achieved. Why? What is it? What is it that has allowed us to prosper in such a manner? Well, in my opinion, it's our brains. And our brains are wired to figure stuff out. Fluke of nature? Sure. But it's this reality, this truth-seeking reality, that has led us in such a spectacular and speedy manner to our present state. Are we in danger of losing it to elements of our species that prefer darkness over light? Yep. But, that doesn't negate the fact that there are humans that do seek truth, whatever that means to them, and it propels the Whole forward, irresistably into the future.
