Re: Bob Millett: Mormons Need to Get on the Same Page
Millet doesn't need to write anything. All on has to do is read what the Church itself has said about what is and is not doctrine. Of course the apostates here are quite guilty of asking for clarity and then carping about it once they get it.

And yet Millet's gripe is that those within the Church aren't on the same page. Apostates have nothing to do with it, though it's easy enough to see why you would prefer to discuss that over Millet's observation that Mormons are not unified in their understanding of their own doctrine. Perhaps Thomas S. Monson should refer them all to your siggy at the next General Conference, eh? Then they'd all be on the same page for sure, right?

Re: Bob Millett: Mormons Need to Get on the Same Page
Sure. But I'm quite certain most active TBM LDS are on the same page anyway as what is and is not doctrine is stressed regularly in teacher preparation and has been for decades now. The subject comes up in classes from time to time and get's answered the same way I've been answering you.
I do note in hometeaching and visiting the inactives in every ward, there exists some strange ideas about doctrine.
Among apologists, I have also noted a disturbing tendency among a small few not to accept the Church's statements on doctrine. My guess is that they have a doctrinal agenda or have not been successful in squaring their arguments in the face of opposition and posit nondoctrinal theories to explain apparent, but nonexistant, contradictions.

I agree with what he said! There are too many members, even in my own student ward(College 11th Ward), that talk about the Gospel with half truths, faith promoting stories, things they heard from their parents, institute teachers, relatives etc.. uhh it is frustrating!!!
I always correct them and tell them that they should participate in online LDS apologetics to get their facts straight. Listen to leaders like Brother Millet, attend meetings like the one he spoke at!
I also tell them that our Bishop(Dr. Daniel Peterson) is the top LDS apologist at the BYU Maxwell Institute and they should just ask him!
I wonder if Bishop Peterson would give a crash course to our ward on getting the straight facts and how to talk about the gospel to not only investigators but to the less active.
... Dr. Daniel Peterson is the top LDS apologist at the BYU Maxwell Institute ...
Do You agree with this, Bishop Peterson? (Please note that the top means one and only one person.)
... how to talk about the gospel ...
Warning to You (collegeterrace), to Your ward, and to Bishop Peterson:
Some words have different meaning in Mormon environment. For example "gospel" and "bishop". Every non-mormon (especially christians of other - apostate - churches) should be taught the restored meaning of that words, before that course.
Ooops! "Less active" means "inactive" so they can not take part in any crash course.

My apologies. Please allow me to clarifiy.ludwigm wrote: ... Dr. Daniel Peterson is the top LDS apologist at the BYU Maxwell Institute ...

In my humble opinion, Dr. Peterson is the top LDS apologist, and a great bishop!
This is my first semester at UVU. I am trying to squeeze in a few semesters of school before I serve my mission. I was excited to see Dr. Peterson was the Bishop of my ward because I have been a lurker for a long time of the MormonApologetics board.
I am amazed at how many of my ward members do not know who our Bishop is! I met more roomates today and all of them never heard of him or even knew what the term apolgetics means.
I like posting and reading here but when Wednesday hits, my time will be limited as that is when I start class and I have am taking some tough classes! (at least for me)

Bishop Peterson information dissemination
Collegeterrace, you should print this thread and take it with you to Church next Sunday and read it in Gospel Doctrine so that everyone can know what an exceptional Bishop they all have in your ward.

In other words, it's a pretty normal LDS ward.

My parents told me I should not read so much into the deep doctrines. They had an uncle who did and actually left the church, to join the polygamists in the four corners area. I know, weird...
I told my mom and dad that I just wanted to be ready to share and defend the Gospel on my up coming mission. Me a polygamist? NO WAY!

And do you have a preference for where you'd like to be called on your mission?
