So, in other words, our sacred duty here is to keep Daniel busy to prevent him from murdering Scratch. I love a sacred mission. I have a title for the book, even. Distraction at Shady Acres. The apologists ought to love that title!

I mean seriously (too tired to edit previous post) what on earth is the significance of Daniel Peterson around here? I don't mind the occasional thread about him, but as Tarski said, it dominates here.

Is there some good reason why, on any given day of the week, there are multiple threads about Daniel Peterson?

Discussing Mormon apologetics without mentioning Daniel Peterson is akin to discussing U.S. foreign policy without mentioning George W. Bush.

I'm sick of hearing about Bush too. ;)

Well, then consider me well qualified.

I'm sorry, but I don't consider you well qualified. You'll have to try harder to act like a dumbass.

It makes people look straight up stupid.

Is posting an insult to people who post insults to Dan supposed to mean something?

Ask yourself why you made this post, and you'll have answered your own question.

I too am tired of the Scratch/Peterson gig. In addition, I hate the words "ilk", "stunning" and "vacuous".

Yes, but I like the word "fixin'" as in "I am fixin' to rustle me up some beans."

I have had the visual of tying a rope on each of their legs and throwing them over a clothesline.
I think it would be morally right to lie about your religion to edit the article favorably.

Here I disagree with you, Schmo. I posted no insult, I posted an observation regarding how the behavior makes people appear. I made the above post because I'm mystified as to why people would spend so much time on one person and I wonder what motivates people to do so.

I see it in much the same way as I do when I see ex-LDS appear to be fascinated with alcohol (as in the new thread by collegeterrace). Who cares?

It's just booze.

I mean seriously, it's all well and good to find out what people's preferences are however, between here and RFM's recurring posts such as "What beer should I begin with?" it's entirely strange. For pete sakes, how hard is this? Open a bottle and taste it.

Same thing with Daniel. Daniel isn't the force that drives the church nor is he responsible for all things apologetic. I see very little discussion here regarding the actual work of apologists. For example, recent threads about Kerry Shirts youtube site have virtually nothing to do with his apologetics. They have to do with ragging on people's appearances and demeanor, not the 400+ other films he's got about actual strands of apologetics.

What the hell?

Oh, I don't agree with that. Neither does the OP and others appear to agree with that. It would be different (IMHO) if the threads were actually about Mormon apologetics however, they ususally are not and more the case is that they quickly devolve into Peterson minutia.

Just my take and as I stated previously, I could just be cranky.

Even threads that are not about Peterson quickly evolve into being about Peterson when he begins responding. But I strongly believe his manner of interaction on this board is just as responsible for that fact as the manner of interaction of critics on the board.
