Are you serious?

If so, you have my deepest apologies for failing to take into account a note that was posted while I was writing my own.

It might be a problem to some Church leaders, though. If she is a self-proclaimed, active, temple-going Mormon, then she is promoting and/or profiting from material that goes directly against Church standards.

Frankly, I hope I'm way off on this one. But somehow, I don't think I am.

I suspect unless she puts the prophet somewhere in the book, and it's embarrassing (like maybe he joins the vampires) to the church, she won't be touched. Besides if she's active and TR holding, she's paying tithing on all those royalties, unlike the guy with the calendars.
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.

True! So, I guess if our steamy stories are as successful as hers, we wouldn't have to post with a pseudonym as long as we paid our tithing. ;)

By those standards, the church would need to excommunicate everyone who works in a casino.

I highly doubt that'll happen.

I'm one of those weird Mormons who thinks that sex, murder, and other things can actually be legitimately employed in fiction in a way I would endorse. For example, I highly enjoyed the book Crime and Punishment.

one moment, of the well of life to taste-
The stars are setting and the caravan
starts for the dawn of nothing; Oh, make haste!

What is the problem?

Joseph co authored a book where a character behead a helpless drunk guy, stole his clothes and then stole his records.

Then there was the other story in the book where another character hacked off the arms of a bunch of guys, who I'd imagine died a gruesome Monty Python like death death.

Then there was the Shiz guy who could no breath cuz someone hacked off his head...

Oh and lets not forget the personal stories of Joseph bedding girls under the flicker of a flaming sword!

I haven't read a line of her writing, and probably never will, but my understanding is that she's expressly refused to include premarital sex in her novels, despite a request from her literary agent or editor that she do so.

But... you haven't read the books... so how can you discuss something you haven't read?

Harmony, must you bring the FARMS book reviews into this thread?

liz3564 wrote:Do any of the TBM's here think that Stephenie Meyer at least deserves a call into the bishop's office for her vampire novels?

She is a publicly declared Mormon and BYU graduate.

Her novels involve pre-marital sex and tales of the undead.

Sounds a little racy for a Mormon author.

Thoughts?

Has Meyer really written anything worse than Orson Scott Card? At least from a moral standpoint. I wouldn't mind seeing her ex'd for the quality of her books in general.

Regarding the movie, let's not forget the author who said "Having your book made into a movie is like seeing an oxen made into bouillon cubes".
