Re: Democracy in action: Dr. Shades knuckles under
I have to admit, I've been a big proponent of light moderation. But after reading a couple of the threads the past couple of days, this appears to be MUCH more difficult than I had anticipated.
Shades has tried to warn me of this, and I never really grasped the difficulty of it. I'm not sure I grasp it entirely now.
However, that being said, just because something is difficult doesn't mean it is impossible. I'm still not convinced that it won't be better, difficult as it might be.
Just to throw this out there, what if we only moderated posts that were reported? That way we can throw some of the responsibility back on the community?

DUDES. This place is already moderated. For “F”'s sake. That's why there are different forums with different standards. Jesus. It's fine the way it is. Just because some pussies come here and start crap, and then leave when they get their feelings hurt (like the Fat Man) doesn't mean you have to overthink things. People come and go... It's just the way it is...

That's a great idea.
I get the impression, though, that harmony's exiles were fed up with the atmosphere as a whole, and didn't have much interest in being proactive themselves. In other words, they were of the opinion that they shouldn't have to report posts; the community should be automatically free of any report-worthy tomfoolery in advance.
But maybe I'm wrong.
"Finally, for your rather strange idea that miracles are somehow linked to the amount of gay sexual gratification that is taking place would require that primitive Christianity was launched by gay sex, would it not?"

What makes you think this?

My take is that the Terrestial can not be moderated for ad homs, personal attacks. It would be a nightmare to do so.
However I think it possible for the Celestial, because it is meant to be serious and is a slow board, ut even then on the whole it is not necessary.
I remember a thread there where GAD, CC and even Tarski to a smaller extent, were employing excessive ad homs rather than sticking with the issues. It wasn't a big deal. If people don't want a serious honest discussion then they don't and so what.
So I actually withdraw my suggestion to moderate for ad homs in Celestial.

Of the three people who recently left, would they or wouldn't they have left earlier thanks to heavier moderation?
They'll be back. While on the surface they may actually want to force some sort of protection or change, the allure of fending for one's self is just too great.

Actually, that's what's known as an ad cactusem.
Lou Midgley 08/20/2020: "...meat wad," and "cockroach" are pithy descriptions of human beings used by gemli? They were not fashioned by Professor Peterson.
LM 11/23/2018: one can explain away the soul of human beings...as...a Meat Unit, to use Professor Peterson's clever derogatory description of gemli's ideology.

Literally, from the Latin, it means against the cactus.
